nbr: what do you do with random stuff?

Between DH and I we've accumulated a lot of random stuff. From baby blankets and room decorations to high school sports letters and papers. What do you do with this stuff? I want to toss it all but I really can't. I can't even really just stick it in a closet and forget about it because they're all being used. I'm thinking most of the high school stuff, I can toss.

  • I threw away all of my stuff from grade school and highschool. I figure the kids aren't going to want it when I die so why let it clutter up my house now

  • I have a box in the basement.  I can't bring myself to throw out all my high school photos.  However over the years I have started tossing out cards, letters, etc.

This is how I need to think of it, why let it take up space when it has no purpose. Now I'm thinking about all of the cards I have in boxes too, like wedding cards. Hmmm

I say toss too.  Anything that we don't use or love.  What if I die all of a sudden, I don't want others to have to grieve and go thru all my crap.  DH holds on to stuff, but I'm working on him.

  • J I swear you and I are long lost friends.  N and I are going through all of our stuff like that right now as he cleans the garage.  Our philosophy: If we haven't used it/looked at it/needed it in the past year, it's gone.  Although DH did mention hanging on to our varsity letters, lol!

How funny! At least you have the garage to stash it away though! I started with a tiny pile tonight and figured I should keep our diplomas (ha) but put my letters in the toss pile. Hopefully I can move onto going through clothes! I think the holidays coming and knowing more stuff is on its way in is fueling the need to purge.

Lol, I didn't say I was throwing away his Varsity jacket that's just hanging out in the coat closet.  How do you display your purple tornados in your decorating?  Maybe I just need some new ideas on how to incorporate these things : )

  • Right now, a lot of that stuff is in the basement. DH keeps talking about having a yard sale in the spring, so I'm hoping that over the winter we will weed through all of it and pitch out what we don't want. It is hard to get rid of some things, though, like pictures from HS, so I may have to find a new way to store them. Guess it will be a good excuse to start scrapbooking again.

  • We just got rid of a TON of stuff. We had the veterans association come and haul it away. I thought it would be tough...nope. I was glad to see it go to someone who might use it instead of just filling up landfill space somewhere! They took everything from clothes, to knick nacks. It was great. My MIL lived with us and passed away 2 years ago. All of her stuff was still in our basement. My parents moved into the in-law apartment so we were forced to do something.
