prenatal vitamins- does anyone else suck at this??

In the first tri I was so sick with hyperemesis that the docs told me not to even worry about taking them because they probably wouldn't stay down anyway. Now that I'm mostly better, I CONSTANTLY forget to take my vitamin at night (not even a prenatal at that, just a regular one, so shoot me). Not looking for lectures, just wondering if anyone else is having the same forgetting problem or if any of you simply don't even take prenatal vitamins or any vitamins right now.

  • I take them at night before bed, but i am constantly forgetting...Embarrassed...makes me feel like a bad mommy!! I have been pretty good the past few weeks and have remembered every time...except last night! and this POST is the only thing that made me remember that I forgot to take them!! UGH! I feel your pain!!

  • I have a little trick I use to remember to take it. I like to drink a glass of juice everyday so I make that one glass of juice the one that I take my vitamins with.

So everytime I pour my nightly glass of juice (grape, cranberry, apple or whatever it happens to be that week) I know its time to get out my vitamins. I have associated them as going together now so I never forget. And the juice is kind of a treat for me so I NEVER forget to drink it - I look forward to it.

It sounds silly but it is really helpful for me. I think I have only missed one or two nights of vitamins this whole pregnancy.

Is there something that you do every night that you can try to start taking your vitamins along with?

  • I would probably always forgot to take mine, except I set an alarm on my phone to go off every night before bedtime. It's the only way I remember it :)

  • I take mine in the morning right after I get dressed. The only time I forget is on the weekends when I don't work and my routine gets a little mixed up. But I'm usually thirsty in the morning and I have a water bottle ready so it's not inconvenient to take them.

  • I took prenatals RELIGIOUSLY the entire 9 months we were TTC... I doubt I ever skipped a day.  Now that I'm actually pregnant, I kinda suck at them.  I think it's b/c I couldn't take them in the morning (as I'd been doing) during 1st Tri or I'd throw up so I switched to nighttime.  And by bedtime, I'm so tired it's all I can do to remember to wash my face and brush my teeth.

Might need to try that juice trick in the morning now that m/s is long gone.

  • I was so diligent at first and never ever forgot one (except a day I was really sick and choose not to take it).  Now I am doing horrible as well.  I can't even remember if I took it the day before or not.

I'm going to set my alarm on my phone to remind me.

  • I loathe taking pills so I opted for the gummy kind.

I don't know how I did it but I ended up with a little routine before I walk out the door for work.

    • Two gummy vitamins,
    • One disovable B12,
    • One Vitamin D and
    • A carmel Calcium chew.

What I do forget is my Iron pill before bed. They are not supposed to be taken with the other ones.

Since it is registered with walking out the door to work, that means I totally suck at it on the weekends.  I have gone a couple of days missing and I feel so bad. Embarrassed

  • I don't have any issue w/taking my prenatals but I've been taking them on and off for yrs while TTC. But the best trick I have at remembering is setting a reminder on my phone that goes off every nite that says "Prenatals, meds, & snack!". It will continue to go off every nite til I remove the reminder entirely. So far, I've only missed it twice and that's b/c I went to bed early, lol! Maybe this will work for you Smile

  • me.

I was doing really good for a while. I forgot the last 2 days and didn't even realize it until I read this. I never take it at the same time of day either because I'm lucky if I remember at all. So when I see them I grab on real fast before I forget again.

I'm off to take one now before I forget again...

  • I haven't been taking mine.. mainly cause they are so BIG and I can't swallow them without choking and gagging...

we don't have the chewable kind here in Canada (least not that I've found)

I do take a folic acid pill every now and than when i remember

  • I don't know what your routine is, but try putting it somewhere you know you will see it before bed.  I put mine on my alarm clock, that way, when I set my alarm, I remember :)  You could put them next to your toothbrush, or maybe put a note on the toilet to remind you.  My doc yelled at me about my vitamins (I could only take my folic acid in the beginning, but then I became anemic, so I had to take a real vitamin) so I made sure to put them where I remember.  And if I ever forget to set the alarm, or we aren't home, etc, it's only a rare miss, instead of rarely remembering :)

  • I take gummies because I HATE my prenatals.

  • I take them at night right before I brush my teeth. I've only forgotten once this pregnancy but with Samantha I probably only took them maybe 10 times and she was perfectly healthy.

  • I take mine right before bed and it has become routine for me.  But, some nights if I fall asleep on the couch or just way early, I will forget.  But, I think that has only happened three times maybe.

  • I forget all the time. I did with my first too.
  • I forget more times than I remember to be honest.

At first prenatals made me throw up, so I stopped.

Now with the medication I take to stop the m/s (yes I still get it) I still throw up if I take the pills.

I have tried 5 different kinds, doctor said to try to remember and try to keep it down but she would rather I stay hydrated and keep food down. So I dont worry to much. I WILL take one tonight though, thanks for reminding me!

  • *raises hand* I think part of my problem is that I'm trying to take them with meals that are low in calcium since my body really needs to absorb as much iron as it can. And I love milk/cheese.

I leave them in a super obvious place... where I eat my lunch. (I found out early on that taking them at night made me more nauseous than taking them with lunch or dinner.)

    It's a boy! Born 42 weeks, 2 days.
