they're 1,395 -- I was really hoping for something MUCH lower even though they were well over 50,000 when the BO was discovered. for my first m/c it took 3 months to drop to 0. I really hope this isn't the case again. anyone else getting their levels checked?
Re: 1st post D&C betas in
First off, I am so sorry for your loss.
We lost our babe on Friday 11/27. I started misoprostol immediately and had my betas done last Friday and it was 391. My OB confirmed that I passed all the tissue with an ultrasound and she said everything looked ok. My doc wants me to come in this Friday to have another draw done. I hope she won't keep making me come in to have them done. I hate needles!
I'm waiting for mine to drop post ectopic and surgery on 11/28. They were at 3300 on surgery day and 2000 just shy of a week later. I'm getting them checked again on Wednesday.
Hopefully they get back to 0 quickly for both of us.
you are not alone and I totally understand your frustration
I am 10 weeks post-op and still have hcg in my system, my Dr. is considering Chemo if it fails to drop further, I'm freaking scared right now, each week it drops so freaking slow and last weak it only dropped 1 point in 10 days.
I hope this time it drops faster than your previous miscarriage, good luck and keep us updated.

Please pardon the ignorance here.
Do they usually recommend checking levels after a first m/c or only after multiples? Is it bad to NOT be checking them? What about before TTC again? I feel like I got the total runaround from my doctor, so that's why I'm asking here.
For those who are checking, best of luck for getting those down to 0 ASAP!!!
I think you definitely need to have them checked, no matter how many losses you've had. You want them to return to 0 or it could mean that you have tissue remaining in your uterus which could be dangerous. They are supposed to return to 0 before TTC again. I would call your Dr. tomorrow and question why they aren't doing it.
They checked my levels during my 1st m/c as well -- it is annoying to have to go in every week, but I always found it helpful to know where I was at in the process.
::sigh:: Just one more reason I'll probably be switching OBs once this whole ordeal is over.
Thank you, ladies, & hope your return to 0 is quick!!!
My dr didn't check my numbers either. She said that if I didn't get AF in 6 wks, then she would check them, or if I had continuous post D&C bleeding for longer than 3 wks. I am also going to be changing OBs the next time around.
i honestly think some doctors are careless. Hcg should be checked after a miscarriage to make sure there is no retained tissue, which potentially could cause infection and scar; also, when a woman has AF, it doesn't mean she's totally back to normal. There might be some microscopic cells (retained tissue) still in there and your hcg would stay the same at some point, and you would still have AF normally. I think it's best to make sure all the tissues are gone before getting pregnant again.
Look at my case, my doctor told me not to come back for F/U visit and no beta hcg test. I demanded it for it and I'm glad that I did. I'm still positive at 10 weeks post-D&C, which there might be some microscopic tissue left. I got my AF normal.
I would change OB if they refuse to check my hcg and refuse to have me come back for F/U.
