Vent... Who lets doctors take vacation?

(Being sarcastic... I know doctors deserve to take vacation and that her life doesn't revolve around my uterus.)

I'm just so frustrated and stressed out... I finally called my doctor's office about blood work I had done last week. This wasn't one of those "no news is good news" results... I had the 24 hour urine done, plus 4 draws of blood at L&D because of my platelet & side pain issues. That was last Thursday... I left only knowing that my platelets had dropped again. Not a peep from anyone since.

I was trying to be patient, and I do have an appointment tomorrow, but after 4 hours of tossing and turning last night and 2 outbursts of tears to DH yesterday, I thought I needed to call for my sanity. Wouldn't you know, my doctor is on vacation AND they lost the first blood results. Waaahhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know I just need to calm the f down. I'm just SO frustrated that I have no answers to whether or not I could have a serious complication or not. :(

Thanks for reading anyway. I feel a little better now after having an internet tantrum.

  • even if your doc is on vacation who is covering him/her?  and if they lost your results they need to call the lab where you had it done and have them re sent.  I would not accept this answer.

Oh, I didn't. They are tracking things down and getting back to me. But, she said it may be a while before a doctor can interpret the results and call me back. So, now I sit and wait...glued to the phone. :(

oh good!  make sure you stay on top of them,

  • I think it's weird you weren't informed of the vacation ahead of time.  My Drs have always let me know so I'm not surprised.

  • I was just informed that my doc will be on vacation the end of this month and I am due the beginning of Nov with my second one.  I found out around 34 wks that I was dialating and so forth.  Soooo, to make a long story short, the people who will be taking over when he is gone, is the people I had left b/c I didn't like them.  So there is my luck!!

Yeah I was pretty irritated that she didn't mention it. I usually love my doctor, mostly because she's laid back (like I usually am). But, this was a little too laid back for my taste!

  • definitely stressful for sure! i agree, the one covering your Dr should have notified you. but in my area, it seems like they don't notify unless something is wrong (with any dr i've seen).

On a related (ish) topic. Monday i was on my way to the Dr, but was late :( so we didnt make it on time. got an appointment for Tuesday. Got a call Tuesday morning saying my Dr will be out all week for a family emergency. as much as i understand his situation i was a little upset to know i can't see another dr until next week and it won't be my dr :(  but definitely understand Dr's need time off... and it's likely that someone died in his family which made me sad for him and feel like an a$$ for being upset lol

  • I hope they figure out everything soon!

My doc is on vacation this week too -- and I only have one other doctor in my practice, but they work alongside some other OBs. Still, I guess it's better than being off later this month but I'm a little nervous about this week. ha
