Hi Girls... I am in the process of packing my hospital bag, and I have a couple of questions.
Did you worry about doing your hair? I have curly hair, and is not hard to do, but is very oily and looks limp (to me) after one day... what are you thoughts on this?
makeup? did you bring it, and put it on? I am not a vain person, but I know people are going to be taking pics and I want to look my best.....
clothes? I have lounge pants/nursing tank to wear in the hospital, how many should I have? right now, I am guessing I am doing a vag. delivery, but I am thinking that if it gets changed to a c-sect I will need more than 1-2 sets...
pajamas? I am just planning on bring my comfy set from home as long as I don't need to stay int he hospital gown for any reason.
thanks so much.
Re: hospital bag/stay question
I threw my hair up in a ponytail and didn't wash it there when I showered.?
I lived in my yoga pants & nursing tanks while at the hosp & the 1st week home. Remember to bring a sweatshirt with you. It gets kind of chilly inthe hosp. IMO.?
I would also bring a change of clothes for dh. My dh was thrilled that I had packed stuff for him too. He changed, brushed his teeth, etc.?
Also bring NB diapers. the size 1 they had on dd were way too big. In fact they're way to big still. ?
I packed way to much and used hardly any of it. If you end up needing more stuff, dh can always run home & get it for you. I would put some extras in a bag at home so dh doesn't have to search for it.
HTH?
Oh... even though I never wear makeup, i didn't even think about what I looked like in the pics. I was just so tired and enamored with dd that it didn't matter.?
Bring chapstick or something like it. It was a lifesaver for me. ?
I wouldn't worry about your hair, but then again, I don't have curly hair, so I don't know how to advise you there. But they did get me up and in the shower the same evening I delivered, and I washed my hair, and then just wore it in a pony tail etc the rest of the time. I did not blow dry my hair.
I did bring makeup - waterproof mascara, blush and 1 compact of eyeshadow, and I wore it. It helped me feel more normal after the birth, and more "presentable" to my family and friends. So don't feel bad about bringining makeup. The worst that could happen? You don't end up using it.
I brought way too many clothes. I did not wear anything other than the hospital gowns they gave me the entire time I was there. I was bleeding too much and in too much pain to put on normal clothes, besides that, they checked me every now and then so it was nice to not have to worry. And I did get blood on my hospital gown, so I wouldn't bring anything you wouldn't mind getting messed up. The only normal clothes I wore, were when we were being discharged - I wore loungey/yoga pants (black in case of bleeding) a nursing tank, a sweatshirt, socks and my crocs (the only shoes that would fit my feet at the end of my pregnancy, and my feel swelled so bad after delivery). I did bring my robe and wore it once - when I had to shuffle my way down to the special care nursery. Otherwise, I didn't bother, because it would've been a nuisance honestly. I didn't leave my hospital room for 2 whole days.
Good luck!
I didn't wear anything except for the gown the entire time. I did have a robe for walking around the hallways. The only time I wore my own clothes was the day we got discharged.
I brought makeup but didn't end up using it. And I agree with crazy, definitely bring chapstick! I did end up washing and drying my hair, and I'm glad I did. It just made me feel more like myself. Plus, it was so cold that I didn't want to sit around with wet hair.
I showered every day but my hair stayed up. I didn't blow dry it but I had a hair dryer in my room so I wouldn't have needed to bring one. I did bring makeup and I wore it. I only brought powder and mascara. It made me feel so much more "normal" while we were there.
I brought yoga pants and nursing tanks. I also had some thin long sleeve shirts. I hated the gown and couldn't wait to get out of it. I brought too many pair of pants but I used the shirts. It was cold in our room. Make sure you bring socks; my feet were so cold. Oh, and chap stick. I loved my chapstick.
I only used hair/make up stuff on the last day. I brought nursing tanks & sweat pants, but ended up just staying in the gowns from the hospital w/my fluffy robe over it. It was so cold. Can't remember if you asked this, but if you have a boppy, I'd highly recommend bringing that too. Whether you're nursing or FF, it comes in handy. At least it did for me. My arms (& whole body really) were so tired after labor & it made it so much easier to hold the baby w/the boppy.
Another thing I wish I'd packed... FOOD FOR DH! You may not be able to eat, but if labor goes on long, he may want a snack. I may never forgive my DH for leaving for an hour while I was in labor. If we have any more babies that's the first thing I'm putting in the diaper bag.
One thing I wish I would have done that I didn't was pack extra clothes for DH and myself. I had packed us each two outfits because our hospital makes us stay 48 hours. However, DD had jaundice and we had to stay an extra 48 hours and we lived 45 minutes from the hospital, so DH didn't want to run home for clothes.
Chapstick is a must and definatly a sweatshirt.
I didn't worry about my hair at all. I labored in and out of the tub so my hair got wet and then dried and then got wet again and then dried again. The result was a VERY messy crazy head of hair. I didn't care the least bit at the time but looking back at those first pics of DD, I wish DH had thought to pull my hair back into a ponytail for me. I guess he was busy doing other things.
I did wash my hair at the hospital (I really needed to after my wet/dry labor experience) and then just pulled it back. But I often just pull it back anyway.
I brought make-up but never used it. I was so happy to just be clean, I didn't care about make-up at all.
I lived in my nursing tank, yoga pants, bathrobe and flip flops. I slept in them too (minus the flip flops of course!) I think I brought 2 tanks.?
GL to you!!!?
