Ok so obviously this is something i need to consult with my pedi about and i know that and i will NOT do anything until i talk with him but i am wondering your thoughts.
i dont seem to produce a lot of milk when i pump, and to make cereal i should be making it with BM or formula. (i obviously would rather BM since i EBF). And when i have tried rice cereal LO didnt seem to really like it. She did good eating it and taking it, but it wasnt her favorite. I was planning on starting solids regularly around 5 months (i already got the ok at 4 months from pedi). So i decided i would wait and skip cereals and just do regular foods (not cereals). To do that i know its suggested to wait til 6 months but is 5 months ok? Has anyone already done this, or talked with their pedi about it?
Re: ? re: solids at 5 months NOT cereal?
We only did a few days of rice cereal, because we had some sample packs. Instead, I ground up oats in a coffee grinder, made up a batch, and have been feeding him that instead. I make it with lots of formula so that it's not too thick, and he still gets the iron and other formula-provided nutrients.
It DID take him a few days to get used to the texture, and HOLY POOP, BATMAN because oats have lots of fiber. But otherwise, it seems fine, and I think we're going to move on to avocados next.

You don't HAVE to do cereals at all.
I skipped them altogether with DD1. Some people start solids at 4mos, so I don't see an issue with starting them at 5mos. I think DD1 really didn't start solids until closer to 6mos anyway.
I would just advise that if it looks like lo is having a hard time swallowing the solids then water it down a little until she's used to "eating".
