Corralling the escapee

Just days before we left for Phoenix, C decided it was time to officially flee the crib for good. Pretty much won't stay in it at all now. We put a gate up across his doorway to keep him in his room. Last night he climbed over that, too--how.. I have no idea. Every night for a week now, he's waking up at 3am, wide awake and roaming around. Luckily, I'm a light sleeper and have caught him almost immediately.

So... am I a terrible terrible person to think about putting a lock on his door to keep him from roaming the house and God Forbid our unfinished, dirty basement at night?

Crib Tent? Sleep Sack?

Just a couple suggestions I've heard in the past...I would avoid a lock but understand that it comes down to the lesser of two evils! Good luck!

Welcome to my world.

M's been in his toddler bed(in our room) for a month or so now. He wanders around, even with a sleep sack on. Luckily he tends to want to chat with us when he climb out of bed.

My only advice would be to rely on C being too sleepy to bother with climbing over the gate. Putting a lock on the door would freak me out.

yeah, me too. So I really really don't want to do that. I really doubt a crib tent would work... he'll tear right through it at this point. And the whole "make him super sleepy" theory has already proved flawed, since we completely wore him out every day on the trip and he STILL woke up every night.

We have a child protector handle over the door knob on the inside of her door to keep her from locking herself in. It also prevents her from opening the door when she gets out of bed in the morning. Luckily she never gets out of bed during the night but will get up in the morning to play in her room quietly. It has worked well for us. She has had it for so long that she is not complaining about it, she is used to it.

Luckily she never gets out of bed during the night but will get up in the morning to play in her room quietly. It has worked well for us. She has had it for so long that she is not complaining about it, she is used to it.

Talking it over, I think that's what we're going to do. We have to switch out the knob from a lever type to a knob, first, tho. The lever handle protectors kind of stink.

Definately the best idea, latch on the outside second. Crib tents scare the tar out of me. If they can climb out, that contraption isn't going to stop them. They'll get stuck in it, and that is not a good thing.

Hi - chiming in kind of late here, but we have a knob protector on Ellie's door as well. We are lucky she hasn't been one to wander out of her room at night, but we also used it to keep her in her room during time outs. As it turns out, she has just figured out how to pull it off, so now a couple mornings she has woken up and gone to the door and opened it, then calls out to me to come up because she needs to go potty - lol!

We also have a gate on the top of the stairs so even if she gets out she will only be able to wander around up in her playroom. Still not what we want but at least I don't have to worry about her trying to come down the stairs in the dark.
