2nd Trimester

clothing question for Moms of 2 or more...

Okay,

So all this time I have been pregnant, I have been thinking about how easy it will be because if we have a boy, we already have all of DS's clothes. It JUST hit me this week that DS was born in September, and the new baby will be born in March.

Is this totally messed up because they are born in different seasons? Will I not be able to use DS's clothes?

PS: we are in the South and summer is like, 5 months long.

  • You might be able to use some things as long as they aren't decorated with cutesy surfing turtles and dogs with sunglasses. I bet you'll get the best use out of the basics, pajamas, onesies, adjustable jeans.

  • I'm having another boy and I just went through my son's old clothes last week and will hopefully get to use a lot of what I had.  My son was a chunker and has a long waist and had super chunky thighs so he outgrew stuff fast.  He was 6 months old wearing 12 month clothing in some brands, so I donated what I wasn't wild about or what I didn't like and I am keeping the rest.  A lot of onesies, sleepers, etc. will work as well as jackets, etc. as he got older.

The first year stuff might be tricky but after that I don't anticipate much of an issue at all.  My kids will be February (this baby) and June (my 3 yo son) so I plan on layering, etc.  I hated long footed sleepers that button so I instead have a ton of little pants to layer with onesies that I already have, and might just get more long sleeve ones but otherwise I think I will be ok.

  • As they get older you'll be able to use the same things.  But, the first year will probably be off.

  • I have an Oct. baby and will soon have a March baby...we're going to be off too if it's another girl.  I figure we already have enough clothes to dress an orphanage, I'm sure we'll find enough for a second child...of course this means if we're have another girl.  If we're having a boy then we're SOL because I would say about 98% of the clothes in storage are all blatantly girl clothing. Pink, purple, butterflies, ruffles and hearts.  We're completely effed if this is a boy I'm carrying.
  • September vs. March is not too bad.  I think you will be able to use most of the newborn and 0-3 months clothing.

This.  I would break out all the clothes, use what you can and fill in where needed.

  • It may mess things up a little bit- but you just have to go through your stuff. You'll probably have to buy 50% of a wardrobe for the first year. After that it seems to even out.
  • I agree, you will be able to use some things such as onsies, sleepers etc.  My sons were born in February and May so they were exact opposites (winter/summer) but after the first year everything is pretty good and we haven't had to get anything new.  But at least we will be covered if the third is a boy.

  • If we were having another boy I would of had to buy new clothes too.  DS1 was born in Sept and LO2 will be born in Feb, so different seasons.  Once you hit the 24 month and 2T size clothes (and bigger) you get to use all of them, because they are in those for about a year anyway...so they should work.  The little stuff you can use like the onsies and probably some other items as well, but yeah you probably need to buy quite a bit for the first couple years.

  • I was lucky.  DS#1 was March and small, DS#2 was Jan and big, and this LO is March again.  Whether I have a girl or a boy, I should be able to use a lot of the same clothes.

  • I'm in the same boat, Aug, and now Feb baby.  They are exactly 6 months apart in the seasons and we live in the midwest were we have more of every season.   I have to go through his stuff but my 3 month old def. can't be wearing warm season stuff in the summer.
