Egg Allergy Food Challenge

How old was your LO when diagnosed with an egg allergy and how old if so were they when the Allergist decided to do a food challenge in the office? LO tested posted for an egg allergy at 13 months and we went to get her flu shot last week where they tested her in the office before giving it and also did a skin test for egg both of which she didn't respond to. We got a new set of IgE egg blood tests done this week and our Allergist said if it comes back negative they will do a food challenge in the office.  LO just turned 2 and it's already engraved in her head not to eat eggs or will ask if there is "egg in it?" when eating other foods. Anyone's LO go through the challenge with eating eggs or french toast in the office? How did it go?

Re: Egg Allergy Food Challenge

  • We did.  My daughter was diagnosed at 5.  We just re-did her testing after doing A LOT of gut healing.  Her skin and RAST tests came back low enough for us to do a food challenge.  We ended up doing it at home with strict instructions.  She did fine with very VERY small doses.  Anything close to one egg though and she gets a horrid belly ache.  It continued to the point she would double over in pain.  So even though her her numbers are good and her allergy has healed on paper, she still cannot tolerate them well at all.  So we took her off again :(  I hope you get better results!

  • my son had an anaphalaxis reaction to eggs at 7 months.  No food challenge here since we're at level 5 for eggs still.

I think a challenge can happen only depending on how severe the allergy is.

We're doing a soy challenge now, we are introducing it from time to time (he's having slight reactions, but nothing serious). He's 23 months old and has no concept of what he can and cannot have.  He says "no cheese" all the time, but doesn't get it.  So now i'm curious if i should be talking about his allergies to him a little more often so he knows NO EGGS and NO PEANUTS (since those are his high ones).

What do you tell her that it's engraved in her head? do you talk to her about her allergies daily?  I want to engrave it in his head about eggs and peanuts since all the doctors think they are staying for a loooong time :
