Morning!
Since our current (all) family car - Chevy Equinox - doesn't have enough room for 2 more car seats, we have to get a new vehicle. We were looking into getting a minivan - for all the reasons you ladies listed about loving yours - but don't think it will work for us. We have two English mastiffs, who are about 30" at the shoulder and 150 lbs each. My friend has an Odyssey and we were looking in it trying to figure out how to comfortably fit 4 carseats, two big dogs, plus baby gear. I think we might have to go the big SUV route - Suburban, Yukon XL, etc.
Does anyone have any experiences with this? Or recommendations? We do a lot of road trips and take the dogs to the dog park often, so its important that everyone fits without being crammed.
TIA!
Re: XP: Anyone have big dogs?
We have two big dogs (not as big as your two though - they are about 75 lbs each). We have a Mazda 5, which seats 6 and has a minivan shape. We love the car but we haven't taken the dogs with us anywhere since we had DD#2 - they just don't fit with our gear. We also take a lot of road trips and with #4 on the way our current car will be tight even for just the humans (and forget us all going to Costco!).
We have been looking at the Toyota Sequoia or the Honda Pilot. Both can seat 8 people and have a good amount of storage. My SIL has the Pilot with 4 kids and 1 dog and they love it.

We have three larger dogs, and a Honda Odyssey. Depending on the car seats, you can fit three across the back row, and keep one captain chair in (the captain chairs come completely out, which is fantastic), which leaves plenty of room for the dogs on the floor. There's also ample room behind the third row for storage of luggage, baby gear, etc.
Another configuration is keep the captain chairs in and get the package that gives you the third smaller seat that fits in between the captain chairs. Won't fit a carseat for an infant, but fits a booster when the child is older. Then you can fold half of the backseat flat, giving you lots of room for dogs. This is better for day trips when you don't have a lot of stuff, as folding the back seat flat removes most of your storage space!
When trying cars, bring all the car seats with you and try out the different configurations. A pain in the butt, but well worth it!
We've talked about how we're going to have to take the dogs with us when we go look at cars just to make sure they fit LOL I didn't think about fitting the car seats as well - excellent idea!!!
Thanks ladies! Being blessed with an "extra" baby this pg has made things a little more interesting - to say the least! We could have fit 3 in the Equinox (2 FF and 1 infant seat), put the dogs in the bag and use our rack compartment thing on top, just to buy us some time. But this just shows how different our plans were from God's
