Purees not going well. But BLW makes me nervous!

Granted, I have not read the BLW book(s).. but the concept in gen makes me nervous. I remember my son choking on quite a few things, even VERY small soluble things, just bc he had a way sensitive gag reflex. So the concept of giving her things of substance right now sort of makes me crazy nervous. BUT. The purees aren't happening.. she doesn't even LOOK at the spoon, much less turn twds it or open her mouth. It's a big ol waste of time, it seems...    Anyone else?

Honestly, maybe hold off on everything for a week or so, and then try the purees again. She might just not be quite ready, every kid is different.

DD took to the purees right away, but I was totally prepared to just try and and then hold off if she seemed like she wasn't going for it after a few attempts. I'm taking the whole solids thing very casually and trying to make it as stress-free for everyone as possible. After all, at this age it's just practice. They are still getting all their nutrition from BM or formula.

I like a lot of the BLW theories, but I ended up being nervous as well, given that DD is under six months old but was giving a lot of the indications that she was ready to at least attempt some solids.

Yeah- I said the same thing to myself - that I would hold off.. but every day I get this 'maybe she'll love it today!' whim, and yeeeeah. No. So I think I'm going on a week break as of now! :)

  • I agree that maybe it's just too early. Remember that 6 months is the current AAP recommendation, and lots of babies really just aren't interested before then. Our pedi wanted us to start Nora at 4 months. I waited until 5 months, and it took her a few weeks to really get the hang of it.

  • Just wait longer. We're not even thinking about it until 6 months. He watches us eat sometimes, but really doesn't act like he's ready at all.

  • We started purees at 6 months actual and it has been going well. But she wasn't ready for finger foods until 6 months adjusted - it was like a switch. She had carrots and parsnip spears (steamed soft) last night and she did well with it. I was really impressed! A week ago she would have just stared at it.
