Baby registry on Facebook?

Hi all!

I've seen a couple of my friends post their baby registries on Facebook and I've also heard from a few people that they found it a bit tacky.  I'm not sure what to think of it....

I recently quit my job and moved to Arizona.  I am going back to Cali for a baby shower my sisters are throwing me.  I'm not sure who will be able to show up, probably just a handful of family friends that live near.  All my friends (who reside all over Ca) and my past co-workers live a few hours away from her.  They'll be invited, but I have a feeling it'll be too far for them to make the trip.

I have a couple cousins and friends who have asked where I was registered to via Facebook.  Would it be tacky to post up a link to where I'm registered to for everyone to see?  Or should I just send it privately to those who ask? The thing is, not a lot of my friends know I'm pregnant. And all of my friends and coworkers keep in touch using FB....

Please let me know what you think! If you think its tacky and if you think it looks like I'm just asking for people to send me stuff, let me know!!!!  Thanks!!!!

Re: Baby registry on Facebook?

  • I would just send the link to people who request it to avoid looking gift grabby.  I don't post much on facebook though, so it would definitely look weird if I personally posted my registry there.

Even though I think it would be a little tacky I think you have to do what you feel comfortable doing.  It also depends on who's on your friends list.  If you have a huge list I probably wouldn't, but if it's close friends and family you might be able to get away with it.

I do think that anyone who would be getting you a gift anyway (whether or not they can attend the shower) will either ask for your registry info, try to look it up on their own, or buy something they like for you.  I don't think you'll get less gifts by not sending out your registry to people.  People who want to get you things will do it with or without links.  You just might have more exchanging to do.

Hope this makes sense I"m working off about an hour of sleep Sad  Damn insomnia.

  • I wouldn't link it to Facebook, pass the info. along to people who ask. People will look for it without you telling them too. I hate insomnia too!

  • Personally, I wouldn't find it tacky if you responded to a question with just, "Babies 'R' Us and Target! Thanks, can't wait to see you!", but if someone actually posted the clicky link, I would find that a bit grabby.

  • I would make my status "Since I've had a few people ask we're registered at Babies R Us & Target :)" or something like that so everyone will know and they people who don't wanna know can ignore it

Agreed! People are capable of finding it with just the store name.

  • I have posted my Bump baby website on facebook. It has links to my registries but thats not why I posted it. I agree that you should just send the registry info to those that ask .
