I posted this at the CD board, any thoughts ladies? P.S. I find that I get better help/advise from you than the CD board

A few days ago I posted here that I was having issues with leaking from my BGs and GroVias. That it was from the same spot, either the back or on the side but always around the waist. I was told by many in two separate boards that I was having a repelling issue that I needed to strip them. I even got the same advise from the owner of my local CD store. To throw everything in the washer with a tsp of blue Dawn and to rinse and rinse and rinse. So I did. I put on a BG on LO today before his nap, he woke up 30 min later and he was soaked! same spot always the back, and this time the wetness was even worse than before! What gives? Help!

I have no idea, as I never have leaks with my BGs, but I recommend contacting Cotton Babies for customer service.

Before you tried a diaper on him, did you test it under lightly running water to verify it wasn't still repelling (if that was the issue)? As in, did the water bead up and roll off right away or absorb? I honestly would think repelling too since boys (at least w/ mine) tend to soak through the front of the diaper and have leaking/wicking at the front of the diaper not the back.

When you take the diaper off is the insert soaked too or fairly dry?

I was having this same issue with my NB size diapers and I thought it was repelling. But it was just that they had gotten too small on him. Once I moved up to one size diapers, they worked fine.

So maybe (assuming you are using one size diapers) you need to go up to the next size snaps?

I had repelling issues with my BGs and I had to wash them a bunch of times to fix it. I had used zinc oxide cream with them, oops.

Have you tried wetting one and seeing what happens?

I use Funk Rock from the makers of Rock in Green to strip my BG and GroVia. I put all the diapers in the wash with 4 tbs of the stuff and let them soak overnight. The next morning I wash as usual. I do this every few weeks and have not hand any problems since I started.

I'm not a CDer but my friend is and she said when she put her DS down for naps she had to use disposables because he always leaked out when he slept.

I'm going to try that.

Fairly dry. That's why I figured it was a repelling issue, and this last time the insert was almost dry since he had only been in the BG for little over 30 min, this is why I think the repelling issue is now worse.

I'll try that, I'll try anything! But I don't think it's the fit because if I go to the next row of buttons there is a slight gapping around his legs.

Is the diaper on pretty tight? We have microfiber issues because you need some compression and with ds's body type I just can't seem to get it with some diapers. Essentially mf doesn't absorb instantly ever, so pee just follows gravity, right out the back of the diaper where his waist is. I think he pees a lot at one time too. I put a folded prefold in the pocket and have no leaks during naps. When he's up its not an issue as there is a second or two to absorb since he's sitting or standing mostof the time.

When I had to strip my BGs, I soaked them in Dawn then pulled them all out and scrubbed each diaper for about 30 seconds. Then I finished washing and rinsed about 5 times. No issues since.

You could also try washing with vinegar to strip. I agree, it sounds like a repelling issue if the diaper is dry. Have you considered trying a different brand of diaper? It could also be that as LO has grown his body type is different. Cloth diapers are like women's clothing, the same size in different brands fit differently

I was told not to use vinegar because it makes the repelling worse. I was using it as a "fabric softener" and I got yelled at at the CD board. Some say one thing others something else..ooyyy! lol

If the inserts are dry, it's repelling. I had luck with blue dawn, but if that's not working I'd try something hardcore like RLR.

I have heard that vinegar + hard water = buildup.

The problem is that diaper issues are caused by a mixture of your specific water chemistry, the diaper material itself, the detergent and other stuff you've put in the water, and time. One solution won't work across the continent because the underlying issue is different.
