I know I decided this Very early, but my spring break starts April 6, so guess what? I am not returning after Spring break, so I am officially done April 5 (EDD April 30). And then I won't be back until the following school year in August. I was BLESSED in this pregnancy for so many reasons.
Have you decided yet?
Edit: April 2012 - August 2012. (I wrote following school year, but I mean the next school year), so I will have about 4 months with LO.
Re: Have you decided your maternity leave yet?
I'm also a teacher. Our spring break is March 23-April 2.
I'm thinking about being finished right before Spring Break. I'll probably go back in September but that's not final yet. I'm due around April 7th.
I will go off sometime in March I'm thinking. I was on bedrest for 20 weeks with DS, hoping to avoid that however don't think I will make it to the end! 12 hr nursing shifts are tough NOT 9 months pregnant! I will take sick time (I can take up to 15 weeks) until I deliver in April (hopefully!)
I will then take over a year of maternity leave, I will get 12 months paid and DH and I are trying to work out a plan that will let me stay home thru the following summer. I should be returning to work September 2013! I'm super excited for that!
I get 12 weeks unpaid maternity leave, and unfortunately since I started my current job only 7 months ago, I pretty much have ZERO vacation time on top of that since you have to accrue it, and you only accrue .83 days a month...so even if I save ALL of my vacation time, I'll only have a max of like 4 days saved by April.
I will most likely try to work as close to my due date as I can/my doctor allows...I think April 3rd (my EDD) is a Tuesday, so at this point I will probably make my last day of work the previous Friday (March 30th).

Spring break baby here too. I'm really hoping I go late, because I'd like to be able to come back after break so I can get paid for that week. Our hospital is right across the street from my school, so maybe I'll sneak out and sit in my office for a few hours so I can say I came back
If they'll let me, since I'm not a classroom teacher, I'll come back for the last two weeks to tie up the loose ends, but if they won't, I'll be out until August.
I will get 5 weeks paid, and will take a total of 12 weeks off. It will be a combo of vacation time and unpaid leave.
This is a great plan. I ended up leaving work after going back for 2 weeks after 16 weeks of leave with Z. I would have loved some quiet downtime at home BEFORE he was born and then I wish I had known I wouldn't be going back. It was super stressful and I cried every day at work.
Being a SAHM now (well I do work from home, but it works out well) it is the best thing ever. Enjoy it
Anyway, got a little ways to go before I know for sure I am okay bu I think we fixed it...it's being fixed.
I also had serious problems at the end of my last pregnancy and would be shocked if the dr doesn't pull me out of work this time (last time I was unemployed so it was a non issue.) I would like to work as long as possible so that I have more time with the baby. We'll see!

I get 12 weeks of FMLA. 4 weeks of that (6 if c-section) are at 60% of my pay and the other 40% and all the rest of the 8 weeks are from my PTO, which I've been saving up for well over a year in preparation. So, long story short, I get 12 weeks paid time off! Will return to work, not sure if part-time or what yet :-)

Probably 6 weeks. We don't have any paid maternity leave, so I'll be using some sick and some vacation. I can also collect STD for six weeks at 2/3 of my salary, but I think I'll probably just bank that. I might stretch it to 8 weeks if I have enough leave saved up, but I don't want to use ALL my leave b/c I know I'll need some later.
eta: unless something changes, I plan to work up until I go into labor.
etaa: my mom is going to watch the baby while I'm at work, so hopefully it won't be TOO traumatic going back.
DH and I are both teachers in the same district. I'm allowed to take 30 days of my sick days for leave. My due date is April 12. What I'm going to try to do is to work until the day I deliver... then not go back
If the baby comes on time or early, I will most likely have to go back for a few days at the end of the school year. Hopefully between both sets of our parents and my husband, we can cover the few days that will be left in the school year... I'm thinking right now that this should probably be around 5 days that I'll have to go back.
Then I'll be done until August when the next year starts
Reading all the other teachers' posts has been really interesting! Most people in our district (unless they have to go on bedrest or something like that) work until the day they deliver. I thought that was more common, but I'm guessing not from the posts I'm seeing!
Good question! My boss just asked me about this on Thursday. I work for a small company & they 're going to give me as much time as I need. Plus, they're going to allow me to work from home and/or work part time (and bring in the baby) if I want to.
So, what is reasonable? I wanted to say I'd like as much time as humanly possible without getting fired, but I know that's not so reasonable!! haha
I'm taking 8 weeks partially paid. I may go back PT through the summer, we'll see if we can afford it. This is kind of a bragplaint, but sometimes it sucks to earn a good living. It is a little financially difficult to forgo even part of my salary for an extended period of time. Regardless, I work for a small firm and I'm the only person who does what I do, so it wouldn't be fair for me to take off more than 8 weeks.
I'm due 4/8, which is right at the beginning of spring break. I'm not a teacher, but my kids will be off from school. yikes! I am hoping not to deliver until closer to the end of that week (via RCS or otherwise - havent' decided yet). I have always worked up until the end and hope to do so again.
One more teacher. I plan one working as long as I can. Which will ideally mean until the end of the first or second week of April. I'll use as many of my sick days I have left. I think I only have around 12, which sucks. The past 11 years I have had the most disable students in the district and I seem to get every virus that goes around. I'm hoping this year I won't get as sick as I have a resource room.
Now for the good news. If I can teach most of the school year we can get our bills paid off and refinance my house. Ok our house now. I wouldn't need to go back to teaching I could just tutor or something else. Right now I'm working on getting my real estate license.
I plan to work until I deliver.
I get 6 weeks STD and I will roll over 3 weeks vacation I have from this year, use my 4 weeks vacation from next year and borrow a week of vacation from the year after that.
That will give me a total of 14 weeks of paid time off and I will take between 2-4 weeks unpaid for a total of 4- 4.5 months off with the baby.
Where I live, we are entitled to one full year (52 weeks) of maternity leave at 55% of your regular salary.
Sounds ideal, but I have no idea if we can swing it for a whole year on 55% of my salary. DH does quite well financially, but I am incredibly nervous about this!!
Phew. Breathe!
