how long does maternity ward tour take?

I should be going through my hospitals maternity ward tomorrow, but they don't set up appointments. Since I'm trying to go before my appointment I'd like to see if there's an average time it's likiely to take so I don't show up way early and have to wait or leave in a hurry to make my appointment. TIA!

  • Mine took not even 5 minutes I don't think. I just went today.

  • Mine was 1 hour 15 mins...way to long but very informative.

  • Ours was an info session + tour...probably 1.5 hours total.  If it was just tour, maybe 45 minutes (same is true for the hospital we used for LO #1), although it also kind of depends on how talkative your tour guide is.

  • Ours took about 30 minutes.

  • Our tour was about 45 minutes. Our group also had a bunch of questions, so it probably depends on how interactive it is as well.
  • I'd say for me the actual tour was about 30 mins.

  • We went just last night and it only took about an hour. However, the majority of the time was spent in a conference room reviewing hospital policies and answering questions about our stay.

  • It varies.  If you can't schedule it anyway, why not go AFTER your appointment and not worry about it?

Because I have things to do after the appointment, the only oppurtunity that I have is in the morning before the appointment. I just like to try to avoid wasting time hanging out at the doctors office if possible, since it's an hour away from home.
  • Ours was about 45 minutes but obviously they vary.  Why don't you call your hospital and ask them?

  • 5-10 minutes.  I'm really curious why others are 1.5 hours, lol. We got pretty much, "Here is the nursery, here are the postpartum rooms.  This is the nurses' station.  When you arrive, don't go to the ER, come right up here and buzz the intercom and we'll let you in."

  • We all met in a meeting room and the guide talked a little and showed us a virtual tour.  Then we walked around the ward for a bit.  It took a while with a big group b/c we couldn't all fit in the same elevators.  All in all it was about 45 minutes.

Okay, I can see it taking longer with a large group (why a virtual tour though if you were right there and about to walk through?) - I just showed up after an OB appointment, since my OB had just been there and said it was empty, and that the nurses would be happy to show me around.

  • It took us about an hour. We had a group of about twenty. The person giving the tour talked for about 45 minutes before we actually saw anything. The actual tour of the delivery room, postpartum room, nursery and where to check in took about 15 minutes.
