pee test

Ok I have  really weird questions... when I go to the doctor for my appts, they give me a cup to pee in and a wipe packet.  What is the wipe packet for?  Am I suppose to wipe my vagina off before I pee?  I go in the bathroom so I don't think it's for my hands since I can wash them........ ????

    Yes, it is so you can get a "clean catch"... I never do it... is that wrong?Embarrassed

    Yes, it's to wipe before you give your sample.

    It is to clean the area around your vagina, don't wipe like you do when you go to the bathroom but lightly wipe, I can't really explain where...sorry...I'm sure the nurses would have a better explanation too!

    It's not wrong :-)  My office doesn't give them...

    But yes, it's to be used before you go.

    I also use them to wipe down the toilet seat....although my dr's offices are very clean but still....

    Since we're on the topic of pee tests, mind a slight thread-jack?

    Do you have to perform your own protein and glucose tests?  I was surprised when I went in last time and was handed a cup and a ph strip-type kit to test myself.  Holy honor system!  "Yes, doc, my glucose is lovely.  Cheers!"

    As a nurse, I can tell you! It is for a clean catch urine sample. You're supposed to clean yourself off with the wipe first, then pee a little, stop, then continue peeing in the cup. HTH!

    All my offices have directions on the walls of the bathrooms. Wipe thoroughly. Pee a little, stop, catch the rest in cup trying to avoid the pee touching the skin. Yeah right! That's a little nuts to me!! Though I do wipe down for them.

    This!  If you are looking for bacteria you MUST do this first for it to be a valid urine culture.  If the urine is for looking at protein or something else it doesn't matter ;)

    I do!! I laughed so hard, the nurse showed me into the bathroom and indicated the little poster on the wall. She warned me it's covered in pee because everyone touches their strips to the paper. Ewwwwww.

    My dr there is a sign in the bathroom how to pee. You get three wipes and need to use all three after you open the jar and catch the pee midstream.
