I don't think anytime would be too early at all. It'll probably put your mind at ease to see how everything is if its something you're concerned about. At my 16 week appointment I was asking my doctor several questions about the hospital's birthing center and he asked me right away if I wanted to go over and have a tour. It took my by surprise because I wasn't expecting to do that so early, but I said sure and he called over and told them that DH and I were on our way. It was awesome! A nurse met us and gave us a private tour, answered all our questions and I left feeling really great about our choice in hospital. The do rooming in, they have a breasfeeding program in place, they leave the baby on your tummy for a full hour after birth and allow baby to breastfeed before doing any testing, they're very supportive of natural childbirth, etc. Last month I took a birthing class at the hospital which also included a tour of the birthing center, so I've already had 2 tours! I see no reason to wait really.
I'm taking Lamaze (3 classes) and it starts next week. They actually give you a tour of the hospital during the class. They recommend you take the tour 2 months prior to your due date. I think 8 wks would be perfect
I have mine scheduled for Oct 24th. It's super early, but I'm a planner and I wanna just see it now and get the gist of it. I work in the same hospital, so I'm already pretty familiar with the layout of the rooms, etc... it'll just be nice for the refresher. I dont' think any time is too early realy.
Our hospital intro is on 12/8 - I'll be 33/34 weeks then.
My actual Labor class is earlier: 11/12. The holidays really put a big crimp in the schedules!
Married 08.06 Started TTC 05.08 Me: Stage II endo, borderline high FSH DH: perfect 1 lap, 5 IUIs = 4 BFNs and 1 c/p 2 IVFs, 2 FETs = 1 BFN, 1 c/p, 1 ectopic and finally a sticky BFP in May 2011!
To be honest, my OB office has never mentioned a tour. If they did I'd decline, because I work at the hospital I'm delivering at so I already know what it is like. But I'm not sure my OB knows I work there (or remembers at least). Maybe it is something that you have to request... If it was something I wanted to do, I'd probably try to do the first week in December!

Alright, so 8 weeks doesn't seem crazy. We have our childbirth classes this weekend, so if they don't bring it up, I'll ask while I'm there. Otherwise it's a quick call to schedule
Mine is scheduled for October 30th. With the holidays in November and December I wanted to get mine out of the way early. I do not think 8 weeks is too early.
I plan on taking the tour of the hospital when I take my lamaze classes which are scheduled on Oct 15th and 22nd-- They combine the tour + classes. I think 8 weeks is good. I would want to do it before the holidays as well.
I'm taking a Childbirth Class on December 10th and they will have a tour then. I feel like I'm waiting too long but they only offer the class once a month in November and December due to holidays and the November date is the same day as my shower.

We are taking ours this Saturday, our midwife asked at our last appointment if we had been already and said "oh great" when I told her we are about to go. I think it will be helpful because DH and I have been trying to figure out our birth plan but we have so many questions about the hospital policies that I feel like we can't really make informed decisions until we see how it works there.
I think there is no downside to having more info sooner, I am excited!

My Dr suggested taking the tour sometime in November. So I guess we will do it then

We toured our hospital around 12 weeks because my OB wanted to know which of the 2 local hospitals we preferred.
We are planning to take another tour in mid December so it's fresh in our minds. I'll be around 35-36 weeks at that time.
