DH recently had to sign some paperwork and we found out his maternal grandmother's real name is Janina (she is from Poland so it was pronounced with a "Y" sound but she always went by Anne). DH really likes it and he loves her so much (she has advanced Alzheimer's) so he'd love to use it, but I'm not quite sold.
We would shorten it to Janey as a nickname, and the middle name would be Elizabeth after my paternal grandmother and I was supposed to be her namesake.
Re: A little unsure re: girl's name
This is exactly what I was thinking. I would use it as a middle name but not a first name.

I was also thinking it would be pronounced "neena" at the end.
I personally love it,and the significance.

We want a "J" name for the first name, and yes, it's "neena" (like Janine with an "A" on the end). I love the name Jane, but it's my MIL's best friend's name.
Thanks for the input ladies! No way! That's awesome. We were told her nickname was Yan-ya. Cute.
Agreed!
I think it's lovely.
I also don't really get where all these vagina people are coming from. They don't look related to me at all. (There's someone where I work whose last name is Smagina. THAT's a different story.)
Thank you for the laugh! Poor girl. I don't get the "vagina" comments either, and you know what? Even if people do think of it, it's not a dirty word!!
