Rylee now has a added a witching hour to her routine! It's soooo much fun! :-( It's been going on for four nights now. 1st night lasted 10-11pm, 2nd was 10-11pm, 3rd was 10-10:30pm, and last night... TWO stinking hours, 10-12am! Screaming her little head off.
I've tried everything I can think of... White noise, calming lotion, a bath prior to relax her prior to 10pm, gas drops, nursing, etc... Its our guess which 'trick' will finally calm her down...
So, who else is with me...? What works for you? When did it start? When will it end?;-)
Re: The witching hour...
Just like TheFannins said, the 5s are key. If you can get your hands on The Happiest Baby on the Block DVD, it does a great job of explaining it and has good sound extras you can play to calm the baby....it really works!
DS1 used to cry from like 4-7 pm every day for a while. The vaccum really helped us. We would turn it on and he would stop crying like someone flipped a switch. I used to dance with him to hip hop/R+B too. If you don't want to run an actual vaccum you can try https://yap2nap.com/.
DS2 has had a few fussy moments. I've tried using Gripe Water. That seems to calm him down a bit. He's super gassy and I feel like it helped him. It's just ginger and fennel. So I like giving him that rather than gas drops. But I do those too sometimes.
I've done the swaddle and shushing from the 5 S's. Only because those were the only two I could remember. Other than swing and I needed to get more batteries for the swing.
Same here. There's lots of shooshing and swaying a swaddled baby from 7-9 or 10 in this house.
Our "hour" is from about 7 or 8 until 10 p.m. Ugh! At least she sleeps through the night, though.
We use the 5 "s" techniques from Happiest Baby. It isn't the same thing that works each time, though, so you have to try a bunch of them.
