3rd Trimester

Any ways to help baby move face down?

I'm not terribly worried, but LO is face up (thankfully he's head's down at least) due to my anterior placenta. My doc said he'll probably roll over when I'm in labor, but there is a much higher chance he won't and I'll have back labor from him being face up... Is there anything I can do to get him to face down? I know there's versions and such for if a baby is breech, but I haven't heard anything about when they're sunny side up. TIA!

  • Try https://spinningbabies.com/ they have different things you can do to move LO.  Good luck!

  • I thought spinbabies was to move your baby heads down? LO is heads down, but he's face up.
  • I think spinning babies talks about all possible baby positions and how to get them in the right position for labor, I was reading there the other day because my baby is head down but always on the right side of my belly facing to one side. I didn't get much of a read because I didn't have time but there were some things about how to get your baby to face your rear. I know for one you should avoid long periods of sitting especially if your legs are tilted above your pelvis.

  • My daughter was face up when i was getting ready to push. I was having HORRIBLE back labor. They gave me these things called Lumbar Wheals that made her turn. My mom could actually see her head turn.

I just tried to look something up about it online and found NOTHING. Weird.

  • I turned my baby to face down by getting on all fours and doing a cat-like stretch. You can also achieve this by leaning forward over an exercise ball.

  • Thanks so much ladies! Awesome to hear there's a way!
  • I'm just lurking over here but my son was sunny side up and I had back labor.    Not fun.  My doctor flipped him face down internally at some point during labor.  Not fun either but it's an option.   I can't remember if it was during a push or at another point before hand.

  • To get a sunny side up to turn face back you should avoid reclining sitting positions and lean forward as much as possible. I know close to impossible.

This. My midwife told me last week that my baby is also in the posterior position (sunny side up) and she recommended these stretches.  I've been doing them all week, 2-3x a day per her recommendation.  I also rock my hips back and forth and from side to side while on all fours, in between doing the cat stretches/arched back.  Have my weekly dr. appt. today, hope to find out if it's helped turn my LO around!  Good luck to you too!
