Trying to Get Pregnant

If you still drink while TTC

At what point in your cycle are you more nervous about alcohol consumption? I know that everyone is kinda different on this. I have heard the whole "drink till its pink" thing... but I wonder if there are some of you who feel like you should cut out any alcohol after ovulation or, maybe, at, say 5 DPO or something. Just bored and curious...

Re: If you still drink while TTC

  • Correct me if I am wrong, but I'm under the impression that mom/embryo don't share a blood line until 6 weeks. If you catch the pregnancy before you're six weeks along everything should be fine.

I don't drink heavily, but I do like to have a glass of wine or a beer at dinner some nights..I don't stop drinking after I O. I will stop once I get a confirmed HPT..

Patiently waiting for our 1st since 9/2010.
Dealing with MFI, good count, good motility, 3% morph-HSG all clear, all other test results came back normal, IUI is our next step
    May 2012- Clomid 50mg + IUI = BFN
    June- Cycle Break
July- Forced cycle break due to cysts
    August- Femara, Trigger, IUI#2= ?

  • I drank like a fish and smoked like a chimney AND I was on the pill and I still got pregnant after unprotected sex maybe 3 times.  I think it may be different for different people.  Maybe the man drinking has just as much to do with it, too.

  • When we share a blood supply I'll quit drinking.

That, or when I start drinking so much the zygote can absorb it by osmosis.

    Until then, Cheers!

  • This is only our 2nd cycle so I might be singing a different tune if I'm not KU in a few months, but for now, I drink an occasional wine or beer while I'm waiting to O and after I O I completely abstain from any alcohol. I guess my mentality is why risk it? Do you have to have a drink that bad? But like I said before, I'll probably join the drink 'til it's pink crowd after a few months of TTC. For now, I actually like that it's my something to look forward to if I get a BFN.

  • A few cycles, I did stop during the 2WW.  But, after what I've read here and what I've asked a few doctors, I'm not concerned.  I got my drinking-to-excess days out of the way during college, anyway.  A glass of wine here or there is fine in my opinion.

Never. If I was concerned about my alcohol consumption causing issues with a future/potential baby, there are bigger issues afoot.

I'm curious about what other issues you are referring to.

    Uh, maybe a drinking problem/alcoholism.

    Gotcha.  That makes sense.

  • I'm not a big drinker to start with, but I still enjoy a wine or beer here and there.  It's best to abstain from alcohol while pregnant, however a glass here and there occasionally doesn't hurt.

  • I don't drink a whole lot anyway, but I will still enjoy the occasional glass of wine here and there.

  • I'm totally in the drink-til-it's-pink club.  If I decided not to drink while TTC, this would've been an exceptionally long 6 months.  In my opinion, there's no point in abstaining for something that "might" happen.  When I see a +HPT, I'll stop.  Obv :)

  • I don't care until I see the BFP.

If I got plastered all the time, I might care.  Since I don't, I don't care.

  • I don't drink much anyway, but now I'm abstaining unless it's during my cycle and the week after my cycle begins.  That's just me - alcohol messes up my sleep and stresses my body out.  Because I'm such a lightweight, even two glasses of wine does that!  What's up with that?

I'd love to be one of the drink til it's pink gals.  They are probably having way more fun!  ;)

  • I personally won't deny myself drink until I get a positive test. That being said I am not planning on a bender during the 2WW either. I am currently 8 DPO and just enjoyed a glass of wine to wind down after work. Everyone is different though, if you are worried about it maybe stop at 7DPO since that is the earliest stat I have heard for when implantation occurs. GL on whatever you decide.

  • I am a drink til it's pink girl too. I am not going to go months and months without having a drink. You'll have nine months of that when you get PG.

  • Any time after O I don't have more than one drink per day, but I try not to drink at all after 7DPO, but the occasional small glass of wine may slip in. After TTC for a year, I've given up too many months of enjoying a glass of wine or a beer only to get a BFP, so if I want one, I won't restrict myself until I get that BFP.

  • At 25 I just started drinking (seriously, before this summer, the last drink I had was at 15 when my parents gave me a splash of Bailey's in a glass of milk at Christmas). I've had a few, uh, fun nights since starting, but I've noticed I'm very pleased with a nice buzz once a month or so. I don't see myself drinking during the 2WW, mainly because I went so long without it that I find it very unnecessary--I am a huge fan of craft beers, though. Plus DH has never drank and is pretty dedicated to never drinking, so it's not a part of my daily life or anything.

  • I don't drink while TTC. At least, I didn't while trying for our first. Honestly, I don't really drink ever, TTC or not. Now that I was diagnosed with PCOS and will start clomid next cycle, a beer would be really nice. lol I will try to hold myself to the no drinking rule I had in place for myself, but if I had one beer every once in a while, I wouldn't let it stress me out.

I'm not a huge drinker, but I generally avoid getting hammered during TWW.  A drink or two doesn't concern me.

  • Definitely a "drink till it's pink" girl here. AF came yesterday and I was pretty upset about it. The 2 glasses of wine I had last night were much needed.

  • I still drinka dn dotn relaly worry about it too much.  It is true that the baby for the first few weeks lives off cells that your body has already created and a blood line starts by the time you should know you are pregnant anyway.  That beign said.  I watch it more during the TWW.  I will have a couple beers but less that I did when I was not TTC. :)  You have to keep living your lief and relax...enjoy the moments..you never know what the future holds
