How the bleep am I going to sleep train twins?

Same time? One at a time? One seems to be ready for the crib and the other is not. One used to stay asleep when the other cried but now they wake each other up.

Also - trying to transition them to their cribs makes me sooooo nervous. N cries for about 2 minutes then rolls onto his tummy and passes out completely face down. I move his head to the side but what will I do at night? Ugh.

  • P.S. this is just a generalized vent and I realize most of you don't have twins and can't really answer this hypothetical question.

    Blah.

  • Ugh. I?m sorry. That must be tough. DD slept in her swing up until 2 weeks ago. My mom who watches DD started putting her in her crib for one of her naps. She layed her on her tummy though. That?s the way she likes to be. After about a week of naps in her crib. I bit the bullet and decided to put her in the crib for the night. I fed her and put her in there and she was out right away. The first night was awesome. After that, I never had any trouble. I guess she was just ready.

Just last week she also stopped waking up twice a night and it up to once a night before 5am before she is up again. I know how nerve wrecking it is about them being on their tummy. The first few days she would lay on her side but she loves her tummy. I don?t even turn her anymore. I always put her on her back but she ends up on her tummy. She always turns her head, can roll over, and can lift herself high on her hands so I stopped fretting about it. If I wake up I do check on her though, and during the day I check on her.

  • If you feel one is ready for the crib and the other isn't, then I would go ahead and work with the one who is ready. Personally, I did both of my girls at the same time, but they have been in their cribs for a while now.

Do your boys wake each other up when they cry? I am lucky in that when one cries, the other keeps snoozing. If they tend to wake each other up, though, then I change my answer and say you should just go for it all at once so you don't have any regression issues to deal with.

((hugs)) It can be done, I promise!

I've done it a few times for naps, and he rolls to his tummy and does sleep maybe 30-45 minutes that way. He's the one who is really strong and can roll both ways and push all the way up on his arms. My other boy can only roll from tummy to back at this point but generally a better sleeper anyway.

  • I accidentally clicked on this board, but saw your post :-)  My twins are now 4 (!) and it was SO much easier to sleep train them both at one time.  Once we did that they hardly ever woke each other up, even now they can sleep through anything. lol! Good luck! :-)
  • Could you take one of their cribs and temporarily move it into another room in the house so that they don't wake each other up? I think I would just go for it all at once and get the training over with.

With that said, I don't have twins and have no idea how hard you must have it.

This!  I am going to stop complaining about sleep training one baby! ;)  I have no advice, but feel free to vent away!
