Westchester Hospitals/OB-GYN

Hi there - DH and I will be moving from NYC to White Plains in mid-September, 4 weeks before my due date.  I had been planning on keeping my NYC OB and deliver at NYU, but am now thinking that it might be better to switch to one in Westchester - if I can find one that will take me.  What are the best hospitals for having a baby in Westchester and any recommendations on an OB?  Would also welcome opinions on whether going into the city to deliver from Westchester is a big deal.  Thanks!

I loved my experience at White Plains Hospital. The maternity ward is so clean and nice and the nurses were wonderful.  a very great experience.  I recommend the practice of Dr. Jay Lupin (also Drs. McGovern, Wysocki, etc). Their practice is in WP on Maple Avenue. Good luck!
  • When my mother was sick I used to drive to and from NYU every night for 3 months. At the time I was living in Yonkers, and I know going to visit someone isn't the same as having a baby but I think it is doable. I live in northern westchester and gave birth in Greenwich CT. Good luck.

  • I delivered both my kids at the Phelps memorial hospital and it was great. Also they have the lowest c-section rate and allow midwives, lactation specialists etc. The drawback is that they dont have a NICU. Your other option is the Westchester Medical center which is also pretty good and another option is the Northern Westchester hospital in Mt.Kisco.
  • I delievered at Northern Westchester Hospital (in Mt. Kisco), and I had a fantastic experience.  I have 4 other friends that delivered there as well.  Mount Kisco Medical Group has a large OB/GYN staff and would probably be a good group for you to get into .  Since they are so large, I never had a problem getting appointments, and all of your ultrasounds and blood work are done right in the office (no making appts at other facilities).  All of the OB/GYNs at MKMG deliver at Northern Westchester Hospital.  (Just to give you a frame of reference, Mt. Kisco is exit 4 on 684, so it's not very far from White Plains.  I live about 20 minutes north of Mt. Kisco and it's an easy drive).

  • I live in Mount Kisco, NY and will deliver at Northern Westchester Hospital. We are part of the Westchester Health Group and LOVE LOVE LOVE Dr. Susan Malley!!!

  • I go to the same West Med practice that the other person mentioned, and Dr. Wysoki is my primary doctor and performed my c-section.  I really liked Dr. Jhang and Dr. McGovern when I met them (wasn't crazy about Lupin, but I know many people are).

  • I'm also with the Mount Kisco Medical Group and love the practice.  They deliver at Northern Westchester Hospital, where my son was delivered.  The facilities are brand new, with a NICU, and the staff is phenomenal.  I live just 2 minutes from Phelps (could walk there) but, am still sticking with MKMG and Northern Westchester.

  • I delievered at White Plains via c-section and loved it. I go to the WestMed practice in Scarsdale.

I have a cousin who lives in WP, but works for NYU med center so she delivers there. She's never had an issue getting there for deliveries although I believe she was induced. Figure it'll be a 30 min drive depending on the time of day. Have you asked your current OB what they think you should do?

  • I live in Orange County and I delivered at White plains hospital.  I had a GREAT experience there.  They calmed my fears without making me feel foolish.  I use Dr.Ainsworth who is part of the westchester medical group.  When I delivered my son they were just as excited as my family.

Also the food at White Plains is great, they even provide meal for the spouse/so.  I thought the first meal they brought me was a fluke because I hadn't eaten in 24 hrs but every meal after was just as good.
