Re: Custom Menstrual Pads....
After more than 2 years of fertility treatments, FET did the trick!
IVF March 2012 - BFP! - Severe OHSS = 8 days in the hospital in kidney failure
No heartbeat at 10w6d
FET August 27,2012 = BFP!

The whole customizable/$140 thing is pretty strange... but I have used Glad Rags as pantiliners for years. (See website here.) I use them as a "second defense," not a primary pad. They're cheaper than the disposable ones over the long run, and I find them more comfortable (plus, no sticky stuff that ends up sticking to the wrong places).
Seeing it on etsy isn't as weird to me. However -- reusable sea sponge tampons -- now that's freaky.
Severe MFI. Me: supposedly all clear but eggs showed vacuoles.
IVF #1 January 2012, ER Jan 14th: 34R, 27M, 23F. Day 3: 18 embies still strong. Day 5: zero "good," one "fair," the rest "poor." Transferred 3. None made it to blast or to freeze. Jan 28: BFN.
Lucky IVF #2: Transferred two beautiful day three embies on St. Patrick's Day. BFP on HPT 7dp3dt. Beta 1 (14dpER)=106; Beta 2 (16dpER)=140; Beta 3 (19dpER)=264! First u/s 4.17.

Yup, they wash up completely clean. Trust me I wouldn't be using yucky stained things as pantiliners! There's a trick to it -- you have to use cold water ASAP, so either put them directly in the washing machine or have a bucket of water hidden somewhere that you put them in (I then pour the whole bucket into the washing machine so I don't have to reach in and grab them).

I would not be suprised. There is no way the chemicals could be good for you. However, I don't know if I could go to the re-usuable ones. Maybe as a pantyliner as stated above, but as a full out pad, probably not. I guess it can't be much worse than cloth baby diapers.

I have been disposable free for about 6 years. I use a diva cup primarily, but have cloth pads as well. There have been times over the past years that I have been in a pinch and needed to use a tampon or a pad, and it was awful, lol! I'll never go back to disposables.
Cloth pads last a long time, so if you figure spending $8-10 a month vs $140 over a prolonged amount of time, you're saving money and putting less plastic in the landfills. I've had my diva cup for 5 years. I don't remember how much I paid, but it was probably less than $40 w/shipping. That's a lot of $$ saved, but more importantly to me, it's a lot less waste and hassle.

I try not to use bleached tampons whenever possible for this reason. (unbleached ones are available at most natural health food shops) TO be honest, I never thought there was an alternative to disposable pads. I get the unscented ones, and still couldn't use a reusable pad. But a reusable pantiliner...I like that idea. I may pick some up, THANKS!
And yes, PP, to be clear, custom 140 pads are weird.
Is the diva cup messy? I feel so clueless about these things. I like the idea that it is better for the eviron. Would you say the are more comfort. than tampons? I always find tampons irritating actually.

P/SAIF Welcome
I'm a diva cup user too... also for about 6 years, like kz! The diva cup is very comfortable, more comfortable than tampons IMO -- and it doesn't dry you out the way tampons do. I have the glad rags as backup on heavy days or overnight.

I've actually been wanting to do this (go disposable-free), but I don't think I could handle the diva cup while I'm at work. I work 12 hour shifts and I just don't know if it would still be ok on heavy days.
