18 mo. - 2 naps a day still?

Anyone else have an 18-mo-old who still takes to naps a day?

Our DS naps in the AM for 1 hr and in the afternoon for 1.5 hrs. Is this strange? I keep thinking that if he needs it we should still let him have his naps. We tried going down to one for awhile, but he seems more reluctant to give up his AM nap which makes for a really long afternoon and he is tired and cranky by the end.

  • I would love for DD to sleep 2 times a day.

  • Sam still naps twice a day, .5 hours each time.  He shows no signs of dropping a nap, and since I SAH, I don't feel the need to mess with it.

He's almost the exact same age as your baby, birthday is May 26.

  • I wish DD would nap twice a day!  I say take advantage of it while you can.
  • Mine does! She takes one morning nap, usually starting around 11:00 am and lasting about 2 hours. Then in the late afternoon (4 or so) another short nap, maybe 45 minutes. Some days she skips the late nap but we've tried pushing her morning nap back and all we end up with is a cranky overtired toddler who won't nap at all. I guess I don't see the harm in letting her continue with 2 naps.
  • DD took two naps until recently.  And she still does sometimes at daycare.  But we've gotten her down to one nap and it works much better.  She'll sometimes sleep for 3-4 hours in the afternoon and her mood is better in the evening.  If you want to do this, just try to plan a few days in a row where you're out of the house and active in the mornings and try putting her down after lunch.  She may be cranky at first, but in the long run I think it works out better.  Good luck.

  • Ben gets up around 8:15 and takes a nap around 10:45-12:00 and then takes another nap around 3:45-5:00.  He stays up until about 9:30.  I love the two naps a day so I'm not going to try to get him to drop them until he's good and ready.

  • My DD recently started taking one nap a day but she wants it to be in the morning (I would prefer the afternoon).  It makes for a REALLY long afternoon sometimes so I would continue with 2 for as long as he'll let you.  I looked online and the standard (though there really is no standard, as every child is different) is 11 1/4 hours of nighttime sleep and 2 1/4 hours of daytime sleep (1 nap) for a total of 13 1/2 hours each day.  GL!
