I really hate the name Paxton. It's trendy, and it will forever scream "I was born in 2011!" I don't see it aging well and it just seems a little silly.
ETA: I really like James. I think it makes a great first name. Much better than Paxton anyway. Also, I know a woman who used this exact combination on her son a few years ago. She was a teen mom. The name seems fitting for that demographic if you ask me.

Interesting. I have never heard anyone use this name. DH and I heard it as a last name and liked it for a first name. Plus Pax means Peace so that's a big + for me.
I strongly dislike it. For me it's a celeb baby + trendy name that just seems really little kiddish and not super masculine or strong. It's just NMS at all.
A friend of mine from school named her LO Paxton,he's about 1 1/2.They also call him Pax.I think it sounds trendy, but I have definitely heard worse names.Congrats on picking a name!

I like Pax, but I'm not crazy about Paxton. It makes me think of Bill Paxton and I find him annoying (in a Kevin-Costner-monotone-line-delivery sort of way). Love James.
As far as it being trendy, or a giveaway as to the year he was born?meh, I don't care about that. Why is the latter a big deal, anyway? When I meet a Jennifer, I assume that she's around the same age as me, but I don't form any other opinions based on her very 70s name. I'm just wondering why this is touted as a negative so often. Anyone?
I think unless Paxton is a family name, it just sounds like a random last name-as-first name....that reminds me of Bill Paxton. Or Pax, Brangelina's kid. Either way, ubertrendy.
If you're sold on the name, I'd reverse it--James Paxton LN.

I asked about Paxton a couple days ago and did not get a very good turnout. I like it. It is trendy but I don't understand why that is a bad thing. I was afraid DH and I just weren't trendy enough to have a kid with that name. It is still on our list though of possible names.
I really like the NN Pax too.

I would do Pax WAY before Paxton.
Agree.
First birth: Natural (med-free) Second birth: Hell, no. Epidural all the way.
I think Paxton fits in well with the current naming trends. I think it's a fine name for a boy. James is always a good classic.

This is how I feel. It's not that I hate it necessarily but it feels a little contrived. I do love James as a middle name. What about another two syllable P name like Parker? Parker James, Preston James, ???

I like it!!! It doesn't matter what others think, though. We chose a name that others didn't like at first but now that he's here it suits him and no one thinks twice about it. I say go for it!!!

I hate Paxton. It's super trendy and I cannot imagine an adult named Paxton. Ugh.
James is wonderful! It's classic, strong and perfect for a baby or adult.

I'm not getting the "trendyness" of it, though. I've never heard it used, so maybe it's trendy in other parts of the country... ?
