Illinois Babies

Is this just me? Or has anyone else been given dirty looks or treated badly?

Ever since I started showing any time I go out to a store or somewhere I get LOTS of dirty looks from people. I can only assume it must be because I look like I am 16 and pregnant.. (I am actually 26 and I think 26 is a great age to have my first baby, damnit). But either way, I just ignored it for the most part. But last week I went on a trip to visit my baby's father in another state and I was totally OUTRAGED by how rude people were being to me! I was 30 weeks during this trip and at both Airports people were nothing but rude to me! When I asked for assistance from terminal to terminal no one wanted to help me. Then when I asked for early boarding (since I walked across the entire airport after having been denied assistance) they were very reluctant to give it to me. Passengers were still giving me dirty looks (sadly I am used to that) but they even SHOVED me out of the way on the way out when the plane landed.

Is this only happening to me?  I hear and read a lot of people say how nice and helpful people are to pregnant women and how its all smiles and niceness... I have received NONE of that except from my mother, my baby's father, and his mother. Even my own Dad is being a prick about it... I am trying not to get too worked up about this but now I am just afraid to go into public anymore. I feel like a leper or something! At first I tried just going out and smiling (because I AM happy!) and ignoring all of this, but after that Airport experience my confidence is shot now. Even if I WAS only 16 and pregnant its not like I was doing anything wrong to receive this treatment. I am healthy. No smoking or drinking or drugs, not even caffeine. I could see getting bad looks if I were doing any of those things, but I'm not. It should NEVER be okay to treat a pregnant lady this way!

Please tell me I am not the only one this has happened to... Because I am really close to losing it!

  • Ugh, why are people SOOOO ugly! I actually had a similar experience, and I also attributed it to the fact that I look so young.  And since my major maternity wardrobe consisted of sweat pants (because I wear scrubs to work) I think I looked even younger.  I tried to brush it off, but it still got me down sometimes.  Try not to let it bother you!

  • I'm sorry. That really stinks. I didn't have anyone that was especially nice to me during pregnancy either but I did have a few jerks!

  • Oh my god thats awful!  I'm so sorry that your experiencing that.  I'm 29 and married but I as well look very young espesially when I don't have any makeup on.  I'm four months pregnant and I do notice some glances here and there if I run out of the house without my face on but no one has ever actually been rude to me.  I always just go out of my way to "kill'em with kindness" as my mom used to say.  That way it will piss them off even more and you can have the last laugh!!  Good luck!
