Alabama Babies

Clayliover - Monday update!

Clayli made it through another night.  I am so completely amazed at her strength and tolerance for what she's been through.  She is 25 WEEKS today!  One whole miraculous week the doctors never thought she'd make!  They could hear Baby A on the monitors last night having hiccups, lol.  And both girls passed their NST this morning beautifully.  Even after such a rough weekend - frequent contractions and pain and the certainty that they were going to be here Friday night; then Saturday night... It is amazing how strong those babies have show they are so far.

She is still having contractions.  Pain meds take the edge off.  I cannot even imagine how sore and beat up she must feel.  But, she has some of her resolve back after reading all of your encouraging words in her post from yesterday (here, she posted it on PgAL).  She told me that reading all of those responses made her feel so much better.

Today is a really big day though.  She still has that pessary in place.  (for those who don't know what that is, it is essentially a ball with a handle shoved up against the cervix to help keep pressure off the cervix and prevent dilating - this was used for Clayli instead of a rescue cerclage)  The pessary is supposed to be removed every 7 days and a clean one reinserted.  But Clayli's doctors kept hers in past the 7 days because of the scary weekend she had; they were afraid to remove it when it was clear it has been holding those babies in.

The doctors are going to remove the pessary today and put in a clean one (because of the risk of infection if they don't).  I honestly don't know how long they'll wait to put in the new one; and I don't know if they use a brand new pessary or if they'll sterilize and then reuse the old one.  But they are waiting until the OR is free before doing it.  Just in case.

Really, no one knows what's going to happen once the pessary is out.  There's a very likely possibility that the babies will decide to come on out without that physical barrier there.

The goal is to put the pessary back in though.  And if they are successful, there's an awesome chance Clayli will last another week cooking those babies.  So I'm going to believe that they'll be able to get it back in and help her buy more time.  I mean, she's already beaten all the odds by getting to 25 weeks.  Remember at 21 weeks when the doctors gave her a 50/50 chance of getting to 24 weeks and then zero chance of lasting beyond that??

So yeah, Clayli is Superwoman and is going to just prove them all wrong again and continue to beat the odds stacked up against her!  But please continue the T&Ps for them all... Today could be a big day.
