Sydney & Signe

I went to high school with a girl called Signe (Sig - knee) and I've always loved it. I also love Sydney.

Is Signe too 'out there'?  It's Scandanavian for Victory.

If you had to pick one of the two, which would it be? And what middle name would you pair with it?  (Not Rose or Grace pls.)

Re: Sydney & Signe

  • mmmm...I'm not a huge fan of either. I think they're noticeably less pretty than Claire, so that would deter me.

But I don't think Signe is too out there. I would choose it out of those two options.

    Signe Pearl

    Signe Joyce

    Signe Elaine

    Signe Vivian

    Signe Rosalie

    Signe Dawn

    Signe Victoria

  • I also went to high school with a Signe, she was a really nice girl and I actually like it better then Sydney. I don't have middle name suggestions, I like the mn spot to have some meaning, family member, special name, place, etc.

     100 % DITTO! :)

  • I would always thing signet or sign. I think it's too out there without being pretty enough for a reason to use it. But, that's my opinion and I've never known anyone with that name. Also, there are plenty of names that are odd to us and normal to other families. Just looking at the names at my kid's school has shown me that.

  • My roommate's dog's name is Sydney so I would go with Signe. Except it kind of looks like Sine & that would just get her math teacher excited. ;)

  • I know a Signe and have always liked it but she is def. of Scandinavian descent so it goes...   I slightly prefer it to Sydney

Signe Wren, Signe Helena, Signe Evangeline, Signe Maren, Signe Honora

The thing is, DD's mn doesn't have any special meaning. It's just random.  (My mom is the uber jealous type that would have a snit if we used anything from DH's family so we just stayed away from family names altogether.)  So, I would feel weird giving one child a name that's after a relative when the other has a name that ISN'T family-related, KWIM?

  • Sydney was in our top 3...I love it.

Signe is NMS, you will always be correcting people who think you said Sydney, you will have to tell people how it is pronounced and spelled too...I also do not like Siggy as a nn.

  • I really like them both! Sydney is on our list, and I love the meaning behind Signe. I especially like the flow of Sydney Rae/Signe Rae.
