Working Moms- what is your schedule?

I am going back to work next week.  We are trying to figure out a schedule to maximize the time I get to spend with our LO, both nursing and awake time.

Do you get up early and do the first feeding of the day before getting ready/leaving the house?

What time do you get home in the afternoon/evening and what do you do with your LO before bedtime?

After 12 weeks at home, I'm so sad to be gone everyday.  Help me make it reasonable!

TIA

Re: Working Moms- what is your schedule?

  • I mostly stalk this board, but since I had a hard time going back to work I thought I would answer.

I get up at 5am and get ready.  My son usually wakes up at 6, so I feed him, change him, and get him ready for the day.  We usually have time to read a book or sing a song before leaving at 6:40.  I drop him off at childcare by 7am, my husband picks him up and I get home around 5pm.  In the evenings we read books, do tummy time, and now that he can interact, we play with toys.  Around 7:15 we do his bath, read a book, bottle and bed by 8pm.  It is really hard.  I do work 9 hour days, so I get every other friday off, and that day is all about being with my little boy.  This is only my second week back so I'm still figuring things out.  Good luck!

  • This is only my third day back at work, but I get up at 5:15 and get completely ready.  DS gets up at 6:15 and I get him dressed and fed and try to leave a little before 7:00.  Daycare is only 2 min from my house.  I pick him up after work at 5:00.  So far he hasn't really been sleeping at daycare.  I think he's too interested in his surroundings and all the other babies.  He's exhausted when I pick him up and has pretty much passed out as soon as we got home the last two nights.

I can't wait until he's sleeping at daycare so we can get a routine and I actually get to see him at night!  DH works rotating shifts, so this week I drop off and pick up DS, but there will be some weeks when DH can pick him up earlier.

  • I went back to work & it has been pretty crazy. Besides wanting to spend time w/ the baby I also want to try and fit back into my clothes, LOL!

So....I get up @ 4:45am and head to the gym by 5:15 so I can be home at 6:15 . When I get home I shower while MH starts getting DS ready for the day. I then try to throw dinner in the crock pot to save time at night if possible. After that I usually have time to feed DS a bottle (if not MH does it) and have to be out of the house by 8am to bring DS to the sitter (cousin or grandma depending on the day)

This doesn't leave much time in the morning to hang out with my little man, but it leaves most of the night open. I pick him up at 5:00 and head home. He usually has tummy time while I get dinner finished & wait for MH to get home. After dinner we usually try to play on the floor with him or read a book, etc. He usually goes to bed around 8:30. (He starts to get cranky around that time)

Unfortunately, working full time makes the time I get to spend with him limited during the week....but I try to make up for it on the weekends by spending much more quality time with him.

(I work one day a week from home, so I see him all day on Tuesdays....and MH is off on Fridays.....so there are really only 3 days a week that are this crazy.)

  • My routine - (I bf and pump)

Wake up at 5am. If DD is stirring we'll nurse until about 5:30 and then she'll go back to bed, if not I sleep for 15 more minutes

5:30-6:00 contacts, brush teeth, make-up, get dressed

    6:00-6:40 pump

6:40- 7 clean pump parts, feed dog, pack car (pump, lunch, purse) and take DD to mom's house (2 minutes away). If DD didn't nurse at 5 she'll have a bottle at mom's house.

1 hour commute to work, 1 hour back

5-7pm we hang out until H gets home

Sometime between 9 and 11 DD goes down for the night.

  • I still have a few more weeks left, but I am dreading going back to work. I have to leave my house for 15 hours a day. That means I am gone from 5:15am to 8:15pm OR 5:30pm until 8:15am (and then sleep most of the day.) When I work the day shifts, I won't even see my son at all. When I work nights, I will miss bedtime and most of the next day. I can't even think about it without getting upset.
  • Schedule?!?!?!??!

Get up at 7, shower, DS gets ready, then I get baby ready. out of house by 7:35. Pump at work around 11 and 3. Pick kids up from daycare at about 5:45, and DH up from work at 6. Home by 6;15. Start dinner. Nurse while dinner cooks. eat then clean. Nurse while watching tv. Nurse before bed. go to bed, nurse once or twice during the night (usually around 2 am and 5 am).

    repeat.
