UO Thursday

Go for it ladies!!

Mine is:  I don?t quite understand women who are in their first trimester and already start buying strollers, car seats, nursery and so on. I personally would be too scared that anything would go wrong in those early months.

I agree. I was way too paranoid. I don't think I bought anything till 17 weeks or so.

My UO: The term "wearing my baby" just irks me.  I know there's not a good replacement word, but it still drives me a little batty.  Your child is not a tshirt.

I'm guilty of saying "wearing my baby" but everytime I do, I think of this horrible ad: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BmykFKjNpdY

  • I dislike all Big Ten football.

That has to at least be unpopular to all the MSU ladies, right?

Because we were excited! That's why! Losses suck, and you never know when they are coming, but I didn't want to walk around anxious and fearful!  That's like saying "don't buy a house the first few years of marriage because 50% of marriages end in divorce!" I was a mommy the moment I saw 2 pink lines! And everyone knew it Smile I'm also one of the annoying people who announced it on facebook at only a few weeks along!

    Wow. Ok.

That commercial is horrible. Seriously, who came up with that ad? They've obviously never used a good baby carrier. I wear DS for many reasons, one of them being for the ease and comfort. If you have enough pain from a baby carrier to warrant taking motrin, then you must be using that crazy strap-carseat thing. Ooo, I said "wear"!   :)

And as for women who buy things early, I completely understand where they're coming from. They're really really excited. They're probably not thinking about things that could happen, because really who wants to dwell on that possibility?

That being said, I myself was reluctant to buy ANYTHING for DS. We got things from the shower and I did buy a bunch of clothes when we found out that we were having a boy, but it made me nervous. Even when he was first born and my parents would give me little shirts for him, size 2T, I was reluctant to take them because I was so afraid of SIDS. I'm a little better about it now.

I agree with you about this.  I wouldn't let myself buy ANYTHING until after my 20 week appointment. At that point I let myself get a piggy bank. Then I didn't buy the furniture or anything else for another month or so.  I was just very paranoid.

They got it handed to them by the online "mom" community. It was a big uproar, where they issued an official apology. I remember watching it before I was a mom thinking - eh it's not great. But watching it again I'm appalled. I have to wonder who the creative director was behind this one!

I was the same way.  I started buying things before I was even pregnant though and had a chest of baby items I'd seen and "had to have" for a future baby.  This could've been really painful had I not been able to conceive, but I can't go through life worrying about every negative thing that could happen to me!  And DH and I knew that we wanted to have children and/or adopt, so it would've been put to use at some point.

  • I think women that DON'T spend a lot of time on TB or other such websites, are more likely to buy stuff early. You become more aware of loss the more time you spend on the internet.  I think a lot of the gals on 1st tri are probably here for the first time and they have a different perception. It's one I wish I knew more of...and so I don't fault them in the least bit. There is nothing wrong with being positive about your pregnancy, even before it actually happens or in the early stages.

    This.

The first time I was pregnant I told my whole family and most close friends. I wasn't 'public' yet, but I had a baby journal and some other small things I put away after the m/c.
If you've never been around a loss, you would have no reason to not think all pregnancies go perfectly!

  • when I was pg with the twins we bought a few things. when we miscarried them it was the hardest thing to have to see these small little items. I had to turn it around in my mind to say to myself "there will be a baby to wear all this stuff". "I will get pregnant again" . with this said we told people early on in this pg due to I just did not want to be stressed out about it. We did not buy anything or do anything till after the 20 week mark.

when someone constantly volunteers baby advice and I did not ask for it and they go on and on and on about it when obviously I have tried to change the subject and move on to another topic!!! people really cannot be this clueless.

when people walk up to my baby and assume they can touch her. seriously! ASK... I went to a house party last weekend and a neighbor asked me and on her own cleaned and sanitized her hands and asked me to hold my baby ~ I was fine with that cause she ASKED.
