Eyesight Changes

Let me start off by explaining that I have been in glasses since I was 5 years old, I'm pretty blind (considered twice over the legal limit without my glasses!). I have been in my same prescription for the past 5 years but yesterday when I went in for my annual check up I dropped a point on both eyes! I've noticed that I have had blurry vision lately but I thought it was just a hormones thing. I was curious if anyone else has had big changes in their eyesight? I have read that this may be temporary and can go back a few months after delivery but I ended up buying new contacts so I could see my LO when he gets here.

Re: Eyesight Changes

  • Mine has gotten a little worse.  My eye doctor said it had to do with glucose levels during pregnancy.  He explained it a little more but that was a month or 2 ago and I forget.  lol.

  • Yep this has happened to me, too. My doctor said some days it can be worse than others. I wouldn't stock up on new contacts or glasses or anything until you have your baby. My sister's went right back to the way it was before pregnancy after she gave birth.

  • My eye dr says it 6 months or more for the eyes to return to normal after birth, depending on how much change their is. I have retinopathy (sp?) during pregnancy and both of my retinas detached when I was pg with my 2nd child. So far it hasn't been that bad, but my retinas are swollen and I have floaters and cotton wool (white blind spots) spots pretty often.

If you're concerned, your best bet is to go to the eye dr or an opthamologist (now the only eye dr I can see because of my eye issues). If you've been having high blood pressure or GD then I would definitely see someone.

  • I definitely had this issue, I was getting vision related migraines really bad so I went and got my eyes checked and my prescription stayed the same for my left eye, but my right eye took three points for the worse. So my glasses were having me only see out of one eye. I had to get new glasses even though I'll have to get my eyes checked for new ones again awhile after baby's born.

  • My distant vision has been getting bad for a few years, but recently it has been way worse.  I almost failed my eye test to get my license renewed, I had to run home and get my driving glasses.  I called the eye doctor and they told me to wait until a few months after I have the baby to come in.  They said I may not have the same vision after and not to waste my money on an Rx now and a different one later.

  • Mine changes throughout all of my pregnancies. With my first I thought I was going nuts and went into the eye doctor. While there my eyes changed to 3 diff prescriptions. lol He told me to wait until after i had her to see what happened. He also gave me a few focusing exercises I could do to get in focus. Each pregnancy they always go back to normal but MAN it can cause some horrible headaches.
