Trying to Get Pregnant

four tests later

I've taken four pregnancy tests so far. The first two were first response and they had two lines on them. Mind you the second one was faint but still there. The third one was a dollar store brand and it too had a second faint line. Now this morning I wake up and do another first response and at first I didn't even think there was a line on it. It is barely there and it looks pinkish but it's sooo hard to tell. Do you think it's a fluke test or could the others have been fluke? Just wondering if I need to spend that much money on a blood test.

Re: four tests later

  • If the line is becoming lighter rather than darker, it could be indicative of either diluted urine, or a chemical pregnancy.  Pregnancy tests are meant to be used as a yes/no test, not a sorta/sorta no kind of test.  I would pay more attention to whether or not there is a line there than how dark the line is.

If you're really concerned, I would retest in 2 days and see if you get a clear line.  As far as them being a fluke, probably not, unless you're not following the directions. Make sure you read the result within the 10 minute window and try a digital if you're really that unsure of it.

  • I think you don't need to post everyday when you pee on something. This is the second day on a row that you are basically asking the same question; all sort of advice was given in those two posts. Having said that, considering that the hormone levels are supposed to double everyday, you rlines should be getting DARKER, not fainter.

I think you are seeing what you want to see on the tests but feel free to call your doctor to schedule a blood test since this is so mystifying for you.

Edited to add: you are already over on 1st tri...so what is it?

Hormone levels only double every 48 to 72 hours for the average person, and the lines shade are not indicative of whether or not they are doubling.  Each test has a different amount of dye in it and sometimes even different shades (I've had dollar store tests that are bright pink, and some that are a deep purple), which is why you shouldn't read too much into how dark the line is.

  • Thanks....it's just sooooo hard not knowing and wanting it so bad. I tried to set up a doctor's appointment yesterday but my doctor's system was down and my health department is closed every fourth Wednesday of every month. I'm going to call at 9 am today to see if they can fit me in at either place. I've just got all this excitment built up inside me and when I get different tests I post! I'll try to slack off, no promises :)

Please stop, or post on 1st tri.  This is now your 3rd post about your positive pregnancy tests, that's just rude.

If you're worried about the darkness, call your doctor (it's really not hard - and they are there to help you) and ask for a blood test or for them to confirm it. We can't confirm your pregnancy.

It's really not necessary for you to keep posting in TTGP once you've already gotten a positive test. You can just as easily move on to first tri and ask your questions there, more so since everyone there has gotten positive HPTs and can answer questions too.

  • Stop taking tests with lines and get a digital. I'd do that before calling for bloodwork.

  • I think you should get a digital test and also make an appt with your doc.  I know it's hard to wait, but hang in there!  Also, this is a public forum so you can post however many times you want to ask relative questions.  It's really not a big deal and I don't know why the other posters are getting so nasty about it.  If you are sick of reading her posts, then just stop reading them.  It's not that hard.  Also, OP good luck to you!  (And good luck to the rest of you, too.  Just relax a little.)

No one was being nasty. This is a public forum, yes, for women who are trying to get pregnant. Suggesting that the OP doesn't need to make a new post every time she re-tests and gets a positive, and that First Tri would be a good place for her to get answers to her questions once she's gotten a positive test, is not nasty--it's common sense.

Wow I thought the ladies were being really nice and not nasty at all, and extremely patient. Seriously, posting 3 days in a row about possible BFPs to women that are dying to have one wouldn't fly on other boards, especially TTCAL where I normally post.

I called this morning and my doctor has no openings AND the health department wont take me because I have my own insurance and not just medicade or no insurance. I'm currently looking for another doc that may be able to fit me in today. Thanks guys for the advice and I'm not rubbing it in anyone's face. I'm terrified that this is not the real thing! • During my m/c I also tried to track my levels, and it's impossible figuring that every dollar store test/IC has a different color ink shade(light pink to deep purple).  Also, even when my number was doubling, it really didn't get much darker.  Finally, when I was miscarrying, the color didn't really get progressively lighter with my betas.  It was always one shade of faint pink, for the four days when it went from 80 to 25.

I understand if it may have worked for you, but the darkness of a line has no bearing on whether or not the hcg is doubling.  They are meant to tell you if you are pregnant not how pregnant you actually are.

Not that it really matters, but how is it that I'm being a hypocrite?  All I was doing was trying to point out that no one needs to jump down this girl's throat.  Also, just so I know for myself, should I not post here if I am successful at getting pregnant?  Is that the norm?  You post a positive only on 1st tri?

I was thinking the same thing. The board is very personal. When you post you get to know the others around you and they get to know you. The current problem with OP being this:

Imagine a room full of people that all know each other and are friends. All these women that are friends are all working on trying to get pregnant. Some are having a harder time than others and some have been at it longer than others. All the sudden someone busts in the double doors and starts yelling at everyone that she thinks she might be pregnant and shoves her multiple positive pee-sticks in every ones face. She doesn't say her name and no one knows who she is. She just runs around telling everyone that she might be pregnant but her multiple positive pee-sticks could be misleading. Then she leaves. She comes in a few hours later and does the  same thing. The next day she does it again.

     Sounds frustrating right?

  • Honestly, I am still not convinces the OP is really getting BFP. Could be the cynic in me, but I just get a whiff of that whole "we have been trying a WHOLE month and we are such special snowflakes that we deserve it so it MUST be a line!!!"

The mind is a funny thing and if I wasn't so grounded in the reality of my own personal 'signs' of massive fatigue and vertigo the past few days, I could be that person who just knows they must be KTFU. Except I know it's something viral and not me being pregnant.

  • Gosh I haven't portrayed myself as being above reproach or like I'm too good for the world. I haven't bragged about trying for a month...nor have I said anything demeaning to anyone else. I have gotten three tests with second lines on them, they are faint. The fourth one was not showing almost at all!!! Everyone who has put me down because I'm scared to death about having a fleeting pregnancy or having this be a curel joke is just being RUDE and UNCOUTH!

If it makes everyone feel better I didn't know I was suppose to be trying for months and months and sharing my concerns and woes about not being pregnant. I got on this forum because I wanted support in a time of need and I thought women would be able to do that for me since they are going through the same thing! I HAVE NEVER ONCE SAID I'M PREGNANT EAT IT MOTHERF*CKERS!!! I keep saying what do you think? What do you think? What do you think? I mistakenly thought others might have had a similar experience to deal with! I post different days because DIFFERENT things happen each day!

I've also tried my doctor they say to WAIT! This is my coping mechanism to deal with the WAIT! Getting on a forum and have a civil conversation with freaking civil people! All I've gotten is hate.

FYI I had gotten positives the past two days...today it is negative! Again I stupidly thought that I might find someone who was in the same boat that I could connect with!

Sorry for all those who were supportive and actually gave answers. This rant was NOT meant for you.

    Sigh.

You participate on another board. They would care because you participate. On this board we care about people who are involved in the board. Frankly, if OP is getting all the positives she says she is, that is wonderful for her--congratulations. But she has told a group of strangers about it and asked the same question three days in a row, she's just beating a dead horse at this point.

Honestly, I am still not convinces the OP is really getting BFP.

She posted on 1st tri that she thinks she ovulated on the 24th and her period isn't due until October 10th.

  • OP, your post on 1st tri says your period isn't even due until October 10.

So I have two questions: When did you ovulate? And why are you testing NOW?

Not that it really matters, but how is it that I'm being a hypocrite?  All I was doing was trying to point out that no one needs to jump down this girl's throat.  Also, just so I know for myself, should I not post here if I am successful at getting pregnant?  Is that the norm?  You post a positive only on 1st tri?

Let me hold your hand and guide you through this deep, dark sea known as the internet.

If you have contributed nothing to this board, be considerate and know that no one will give a donkey's ass if you are pregnant. Move to 1st tri and tell everyone there. Chances are they won't care either but, whatever, that's the place to do it.

And finally, people giving their opinions on a subject is not mean. If you view it as mean, fine, but to call them out on it and tell them they shouldn't post their opinions is hypocritical, no?

This made me smile....GL to her but agreed that its hard to keep reading about her positive tests when we all want our own.

Going back to her first post on TTGP she said: "I stopped ovulating, by my calculation anyway, on Saturday the 24th of this month, September. Before Saturday we had sex and did what needed to be done :) Well I wake up Saturday and felt awful. I threw up all day. Sunday I had to stay i n bed all day from nausea and yesterday, Monday the 26th"

So according to her calculations she started experiencing symptoms 1DPO.

idk im on another board that is NOTHING like this.  it's a community of really supportive women who are polite and respectful to each other even when we disagree and they would def care if i posted about a bfn or a bfp.  i guess this board is more impersonal.  my mistake!

    Sigh.

You participate on another board. They would care because you participate.  On this board we care about people who are involved in the board. Frankly, if OP is getting all the positives she says she is, that is wonderful for her--congratulations. • OP, I haven't responded to your posts, and truthfully, I didn't see your previous 2 posts, so I am just getting into this conversation now.  I am sorry that you are unsure of what is going on with your tests and are being put in a position to wait to talk with your Dr.  Hopefully your news is positive.

I don't think anyone on this board minds when people they know post a BFP, and truly, if you are around for awhile (no matter how long you are trying), and are active in the conversation, this really is a supportive group of women. There are several people on here who got their BFP on their 1st or 2nd cycle TTC, and no one was upset.  The difference was, that they had taken the time to introduce themselves and participate in posts.  I am truly not trying to be snarky at all, just explain why it rubs some people the wrong way.  Other posters have tried to explain this as well, and I am sorry if your feelings were hurt, but try to understand the perspective. I think it is frustrating when people respond with a comment and if it isn't what people want to hear, it goes totally ignored.

ETA: Ok, I totally missed everything about the posts on 1st Tri. I can't even re-formulate my response in a way that makes sense of things. ::Backing out of thread::

  • SO READ THE PARTS YOU WANT AND NOT THE WHOLE THING. Come on now! I also said I talked to my doctor when I "thought" I was ovulating and she told me I could have been experiencing implantation bleeding since I was having BREAKTHROUGH bleeding when I was "ovulating." So obvioulsy I might not have ovulated when I THOUGHT. Seriouls are you so high on your horse that you think you can just say things to hurt people?
