3rd Trimester

stiff hands

This week, I have been waking up with stiffness in my fingers.  When I wake up through the night, they feel like they are "Asleep" with pins and needles.  It doesn't seem to matter where I put them when I sleep, above my head, at my side, on my belly... I still have this feeling through the night, and then stiff in the morning when I get up.  It doesn't stop me from functioning, but they feel like they need to be stretched WAY out!  I have done that, but with no help...

Re: stiff hands

  • I've been dealing with that for a couple of weeks. I asked the doc because I didn't have this with my first. He said if I feel it ache and lose movement in my middle, index or thumb then I need to get a brace. That is carpel tunnel.

  • I have had it for months now :( Some nights it is gone but most of the time it happens. I was getting numbness in 1 or 2 fingers during the day too, but that seems to have stopped.

  • How are you sleeping? Sounds like a circulation issue. Try different sleeping positions and pillow stacking :)

That happens to me too.  My hands are always stiff in the morning, and when I wake up throughout the night the pins and needles feeling sometimes has gone partly into my wrist and arm.  (Which, by the way, makes it extra hard to roll myself over ... something I need to do every hour or so.  Ugh!)  It's annoying, sorry you're dealing with it too!

This!  It sucks so bad!  Hang in there!  The end is in sight (at least that is what I have been telling myself).  Feel better!

  • Me too and they seem to be kind of puffy in the mornings.  Some days they feel better as the day goes on and sometimes not.  Glad I'm not the only person dealing with it but plan to ask my doc about it today.  Somehow I think her first question to me will be "getting enough water?" as it seems that's always the first question!
  • I have had this for weeks as well, it's carpal tunnel syndrome. It got so bad I couldn't even pick up my glass of water in the middle of the night one time. I called my MW and they suggested I get wrist braces for carpal tunnel, which I did and it's been better ever since. I got mine at CVS...good luck!

  • Having the same problem, mine seems much worse than most though. My hands are swollen every morning, I have problems straightening my fingers, they ache and tingle up to my elbows. I also got wrist braces and wear them at night (sometimes throughout the day too) and it helps a little. its definitely Carpal Tunnel, Dr said it should go away within 2 weeks of delivery.

  • Like the pp's said it's probably carpel tunnel and should go away shortly after you deliver. The braces will help and if you can get DH to rub them some it makes them feel a little better. Good luck.
