Anyone feel sick after the flu shot?

I've never had a flu shot before, but I got one at my 30 week appt. yesterday. Now I'm feeling sick like I'm coming down with something..ugh. If you had a flu shot, did you get the full blown flu, or did these "side effects" disappear after a day or so?

Re: Anyone feel sick after the flu shot?

  • They should go away in a few days, but everytime I have gotten a flu shot I've gotten the full blown flu.

  • The same thing happened to me. I got a really bad cold after that lasted about a week but thankfully no fever or anything like that
  • It is impossible to get the flu from the flu shot.

Chance are you were already coming down with something.

  • You can't technically get the flu since the virus isn't live, but you can have side effects like low grade fever and muscle aches.  I always get these when I get the flu shot.  Drink lots of fluids, rest if you can and take tylenol if you need to.  I usually feel better in two days or so.

When you get the live virus you can and I have a weakend immune system to begin with and it has been diagnosed as the flu everytime through blood test, everytime I get sick I end up taking a trip to the hospital thankfully it's only every 10 years or so that I get something over the counter meds can't treat.  When you don't get the live virus, like the one they give pregnant women or should give pregnant women, you cannot get it but often will get cold/flu like symptoms.  I know at the Walgreens I go to get my prenatals they don't have anything but the live virus shots there, I asked.

This.  It's better than getting the flu for sure.  If you do get the flu after getting the flu shot, it's because you had already been exposed to it or were exposed to it during the 2 weeks it takes for it to become effective.  (as long as it wasn't a live virus shot)

  • I really don't know much about the flu shot, so I'm glad you ladies have enlightened me! Sounds like I'm having the lovely side effects. Hope they go away soon b/c it sucks!

  • None of the Flu vaccines in injectable form are live vaccine. The live vaccine comes into play with the Flu Mist (which they squirt into your nostrils).

That aching is a completely normal side effect of a flu vaccine, and most vaccines in general (Though I had mine yesterday, and haven't had any side effects at all thus far) .
