Postpartum bleeding at 4+ weeks. Anyone else?

This seems excessive to me. I was 4 weeks pp on Sunday. Every time I run errands or do much of anything the bleeding starts up again. Very lightly but it's annoying. Sometimes bright red but very lightly. I read this is normal if you do too much but it's not like I'm working out. I don't know if it's bc this is baby #3 or what but I don't remember bleeding this long with the other 2. Anyone else still bleeding?

  • I bled for 5 weeks with DD1, and that was after a c/s! (I'm only a week and a half PP so far this time)

  • This is happening to me too !! Every time I think I'm done I will go out and start light bleeding again . So glad I'm not alone
  • I'm almost 5 weeks out and just stopped bleeding for the most part. I will spot if I do too much in a day (errands, going for a walk, etc). I think it's normal but hope it stops soon!
  • 4 weeks pp today and I'm experiencing the same thing. I wish it'd go away all together so I can ditch the pads already! I don't remember how long it lasted after my first baby.
  • I still am lightly also. I'm 4 wks pp after a c section. I can't wait till that is done!
  • I bled until 6 weeks with my first two kids. (Only 2 weeks PP for this one, so I don't know yet.)

  • I bled 6 weeks pp with my first. 4 weeks pp with my second and 2 weeks pp with my third. Surprisingly only 1wk pp with my four with some spotting here and there weeks after. So that sounds very normal to me.
  • I bled the whole 6 weeks pp with DS. I'm only 2 weeks into this one so I can't tell yet how it will be but I am planning on 4 more weeks.

6 weeks out and I just started bleeding again. I had my check up yesterday so I hope it's from that and not a period!
  • I'm 4 weeks pp today and I'm still bleeding. I wasn't expecting it this long either. It will stop for a day and I'll think it's done and then comes back. Hoping it stops soon!
  • Did anyone's pick up quite a bit after having slowed down? I'm 11 days PP and it had been down to mostly spotting, but yesterday it picked up a lot with clots and heavier bleeding. I wasn't particularly active yesterday or the day before. It's not "too much" (not soaking pads, clots are quarter size) but really annoying none the less.

This happens to me.  Sometimes it seems like its related to cluster feeding, but not always.

  • With DD I bled on and off for 8 weeks. I would go a couple days with nothing then it would pick up again. Same thing this time but only lasted 6weeks. And like @MississippiCatfish said it would always pick up after a big nursing session
  • I'm 4 weeks PP and I thought I was done but started up lightly again today. Ugh I can't wait until everything's back to normal "down there." It also burns when I use soap which is super annoying.

  • 4 weeks pp and same. Anyone have random intense cramping too? I read the bleeding & cramping picks up when you've done too much and I've been cleaning all day and now I'm in such pain I can't get out of bed.

Me too ! What's up with the burning? Is that normal? I have my PP appointment at four weeks on Wednesday, so I will ask.  I don't remember this after my first!

Did you 2 deliver vaginally?  I had a c-section and it burns down there with soap for me too which I do not understand at all?

I did deliver vaginally.  Maybe it's hormones messing with pH or something? I was thinking it might be a yeast infection, although there is no itching...

I did did notice a little less burning when using baby soap as opposed to my bar of Dove (which is scented and I thought might be the culprit).

@charliegoldengirl Maybe it is hormones?  I def know this isn't a yeast infection as I get those a lot unfortunately. But like you said no itching. I will have to try something less harsh and I was also using Dove.

I talked to my doula about it and she said it was probably the PH levels being out of whack. She suggested just using water but I don't know if I can do that lol. Maybe a fragrance free, all natural soap would be our best bet. I bet there are essential oils you could put in the bath that would help, too. I'll do some googling and let you know!

  • So glad I'm not the only one here! I'm 5w3d pp from a c-section and still bleeding  (spotting mostly and not usually bright red anymore) and from what I've been reading it seemed like it should be faded more than that by now! I have my 6w checkup on Friday so I'll ask more questions then, but I feel less anxious now.still want it to just end already! Lol

Side note, I have had that burning too when using soap, glad to hear that's pretty common too!
  • From what I read, tea tree oil or lavender oil in the bath can help balance ph levels!

  • My midwife said today the burning could be a lack of estrogen, as the hormone levels try to balance out. She actually said "your vagina is like a menopausal woman right now", lol. She said everything looked fine and it wasn't something to worry about.  She said sometimes an estrogen cream is needed (although apparently not in my case), so def ask about it at your PP appointments.

In in other news, she aaid my increased bleeding this week COULD be my period returning (please, no!). Woof.
  • With my first baby, I bled constant for 2 weeks, and then it slowed and stopped by 4 weeks.  With this baby, I bled heavy for like 2 days and it stopped completely for a week.  And then started back heavy for 2 days, then lightened up.  I am now 5 weeks & 4 days and I'm having occasional spotting, every other day or so.  It is very annoying and I wish it would stop too!  I read too about over doing it, but like you, I'm not doing anything like working out.. just the usual, caring for my kids and such.

  • @Achae same exact thing happened to me! Had my 6 wk appt on Thurs and started bleeding Friday. It's period-like (red with clots) but I'm EBF so hoping it's not my period. Ugh!
  • Anyone have any good tricks to help with the irritation from constantly wearing a pad?? I am getting so irritated and itchy down there from always having a pad on, but I'm still bleeding so I can't really go without :(

Ugh I wish I had a suggestion but that was the worst part for me. My crotch felt like it was being suffocated for a full month and it made me crazy!

I was feeling so chaffed down there from my pad that I switched to pantiliners. I have to switch them out more often obviously but I am feeling a lot better since doing that. I hate pads. Wearing them makes me feel like I am in middle school again.

Using the peri bottle to rinse every time helped for a while. Blood sitting in the skin down there can irritate it, even if just a little. I use the Always Infinity pads that help to draw moisture away and change it a lot, but even with all that I've gotten some uncomfortable irritation/rashy spots.

  • I used the Kotex overnight pads and thought they were more comfortable/less irritating than the Always pads. I also second the use of the peri bottle!

Switched to pantiliners too! So much better.
  • Yes.  I had my baby six weeks ago & I'm still bleeding!
  • My bleeding pretty much stopped at 5 weeks pp. well at the end of week 6pp I started bleeding bright red like a period. Went for my pp check yesterday and my doctor said it was probably a period!  I'm EBF. Ugh!  Just my luck!
  • Still bleeding at 8+ weeks... Any one else? It's slowed down considerably over the last two days so I figure if it hasn't stopped by Monday I'll call again.
  • I'll be 9 weeks PP on Monday, and I'm still spotting, too! Such a pain. I think it's been so long for me because of a pelvic injury I sustained during delivery, but I'm gonna call my doc after the weekend if things don't wrap up... good luck!
  • Still spotting at 8 weeks today.

  • My bleeding started to slow down, and then picked back up again!! I'm a few days past 8 weeks PP. I'm so over this! I'm EBF and hoping it's not my period already.
