Is this common for FTM's? I see so many posts on here about women 36 and 37 weeks having some progress and as of yesterday (37w1d) I have nothing going on even though I've had some contractions.
My doctor doesn't even check because it honestly means nothing! Women can walk around for weeks being 3cm and another woman could have no "progress" one day and then go into labour the next. I am pretty sure though at 37w it is pretty normal to not be dilated, I wouldn't be too worried about it at all!

Same here, my midwife will not be doing any checks. My sister was 4cm with her 3rd kid last year for over 3 weeks, it means absolutely nothing. With her first, she had no progress, went into sudden labor at home, and he was born on the way to the hospital. Dilation means nothing!
Last time I was closed when I went to the hospital at 38 weeks for induction. I was I'm labor less than 8 hours. This time I was closed at 37 weeks and I've had a baby before.
Thanks ladies. I know it truly means NOTHING... I was just hoping since I'm having periodic contractions that my body was doing something with them. I feel much better though knowing that lots of people are in the same boat. Since this is my first time I feel so lost! Thanks again.
I was 1 cm at 37W. My water broke a few days later and I was still 1 cm. I was 4 cm four hours after the water broke with no drugs. They gave me pic and two hours later I was 10 cm and ready to push.
Re: 37 weeks - not dilating or effacing...
