Success after IF

How many hours of sleep do YOU get at night?

Sorry - not clicky.  But I figured there would be too many SS on this one.

I require a lot of sleep.  Like between 8 and 9 hours.

Re: How many hours of sleep do YOU get at night?

  • lately, like 5 or 6.  I go to bed too late (around 11) and wake up several times a night b/c i have to pee or can't get comfortable.  plus, cal's been waking up regularly since we switched to the toddler bed - even though dh has been handling it more than i, i still stay awake sometimes wondering how it's going.

    tired times around here.

ETA:  oh yeah, briedinOC reminded me of our 19-year-old cat, who meows in the night and wants to be fed.  that's another reason i regularly wake up/get up in the night.

    LO #2 - 1 m/c, 2 BFNs, 4th IUI worked (unmedicated/self-monitored with new donor sperm).

  • Six tops, but within those six, I'm up at least twice.  The cat ALWAYS seems to want to go out around 4 am and Claire cries out or talks in her sleeps.  Sometimes our 12 yr old dog needs to go out in the middle of the night.  I don't know what it's like to have uninterupted sleep.  Seriously.

  • I try to get 7.5...that seems to work well for me.  sadly, its not happening lately.
  • I need 8 to 9 to feel fully rested and alert all day. Unfortunately, I'm not getting that right now between pg symptoms and Ethan occasionally needing to be recovered (can't wait until that child can figure out how to pull his own blanket back on--he's not cold, he just likes to snuggle and gets all whiny in his sleep when he's not)...and I definitely won't get getting it when #2 arrives for quite some time:(

  • Well...   we go to bed at 10 or 10:30 and Anna wakes up at 6:15ish.    so in theory, that is 8ish hours.    On a good and/or non-pregnant night.

Right now, that gets interrupted by pee trips, random insomnia, heartburn and discomfort.   for maybe 6 hours total?

  • I am a person who really needs my sleep. If I don't get at least eight hrs a night I really feel it. The newborn stage with H was really tough on me. E was a great newborn sleeper, thaks goodness.
  • I could easily sleep 10 hours every night.

Elena is still not STTN, and thus this past year I've been getting about 6 hours of interrupted sleep each night.  (There've been days where it's just 3-4 hours, but fortunately those have gotten less frequent.)  I'm usually able to sleep in one day each weekend, and sometimes that extra sleep is my longest stretch of the week -- it makes such a difference!

    I'm barely awake as I type. ;)

  • 4-5. usually punctuated by a trip into brynn's room to pop a paci back in her mouth.
  • I work until 1am - so on those nights I get about 5 hours before Dillon wakes. On nights I don't work I go to bed at 11 - so around 7 or 8 if I go to sleep right away.
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.

  • I'd like to get 8-9, but since Jake is up around 6:30 each day that would require me to go to bed at like 9:30. And I'm just not willing to give up "my time.". So I normally go o bed between 10:30 and 11. But the Past few nights I haven't been able to fall asleep until midnight or later. That means 6 hours of sleep and I'm a zombie! :(

  • I also require a lot of sleep.. 7/8 hrs at least. I am usually in bed by 10 and a sleep by 1045 11 the latest. DH doesn't need as nearly as much sleep as me he is like the energizer bunny so when J was a baby he would do the late night feedings..it's the part I Am least looking forward to w baby 2. I love that j sleeps though the night!
  • 6-7 and up several times in that time frame.

  • Ideally I would get at least eight but with the baby that just isn't happening since I'm up at least twice feeding him.

The older I get the earlier and earlier my bedtime seems to get.  For more than a year now I've been putting the kids to bed and then heading to bed myself, so around 8:00pm.  Now, most times I don't actually fall asleep for at least another hour but still, who gets in bed at 8:00????  And, what will I do when my kids are allowed to stay up later than that????

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

  • i really like to get 8 hours, with 8 hours i feel like a human being and can make it through the day chasing both my boys.

lately i have been waking up on my own between 5 and 6, even though my boys are still asleep at that point. it is so annoying!  so i am trying to get in bed around 10 so that i still get about 7 hours of sleep, which i can handle if i have coffee!

we are lucky- both boys sleep through the night, although they used to sleep until 7 or 7:30, and now asher is waking up at 6:15 or 6:30, which wakes benjamin and so our day starts earlier than it once did!

  • This is a great question.  Before I was pregnant with #2, I would say 7 hours.  Even if DS wakes up in the middle of the night, we just bring him into bed with us and everyone falls right back to sleep.  At this point in my pregnancy, I'm up pretty much every 2 hours to pee so I bet my sleep time has been cut down to 6 hours since it sometimes takes me half an hour or more to fall back asleep.  Sigh.

  • I'm almost afraid to answer cause I might jinx it.   I get around 7 or 8 hours depending on what time I go to bed (try to get in bed around 11) and what time the kids wake up.

  • It honestly all depends on the night.  DS took so long to STTN (and recently has had some issues) that I forgot how to myself!  I wake up often to pee and then can't fall back asleep.  There's often too much on my mind.

In an ideal world 8-10 would be awesome.  That's what I got before DS was born.  I try to be in bed my 9-9:30 now so I can hopefully get close to that!

  • Holy 8 or 9!  I get out of work at 8, get them in bed, usually by 9ish.  Finish working out around 11:30/12.  Usually up by 6PM.  DS1 didn't start STTN until around 15 months and then we had two months of colic w/ DS2.  I need about 6.5 hours to function properly : )

  • Around 7 - I go to bed around 11 usually, and then wake up between 6 and 7. It varies by and hour or so sometimes though, if I go to bed earlier/later or wake earlier/later. I usually wake once in the night when Toodle climbs into our bed but I'm only awake a matter of minutes until he settles back down and we both fall back asleep.

  • I aim for 8-9.  Mostly uninterrupted as DD will STTN if she's in our bed, and most of the time she is.  I try to be in bed, even if reading, by 10:30 and I sleep late...8 or 8:15 most days.

  • DD sleeps 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.  I go to bed at the same time as her, which doesn't leave me with a whole lot of personal time, but I need 8 hours to not feel like a zombie.  She doesn't nap w/o being held for more than 45 min, so napping during the day isn't possible for me.  Newborn stage was rough, DH and I took shifts so we could get some good stretches of sleep.

  • I usually get about 7.5, but I would love to get a solid 9.  My twins go to sleep by 8, so if I went to bed by 9, I would probably get a solid 9 hours, but then laundry, dishes, etc would never get done.  Oh well...
