  Is there a way to spell Mar'kiya without the '?

  I would hate for  her to have to spell her name like this: M-A-R-apostrophe-K-I-Y-A her whole life.

  Yea, then I'd defintely go without it. Much more work for her throughout life. I have to spell my name all the time as it is, and if I had to add an apostrophe, I think I'd throatpunch my mom.

  To be honest the apostrophe seems a tad bit ghetto...and that perception will follow her for life. Phoenix isn't a favorite of mine but overall it's nit a bad name. Even without the apostrophe I don't like Markiya at all. My cousin named her daughter Markasia...and to me even that is a bit ghetto. I guess I'm. Ot a fan of the made up names.

  in the end it's your baby so thenonly who really like to has to like it is you (and you DH/S/O, daughter's father).

  I don't understand this part.  How else would you spell the word Phoenix?  It is a real word, and it has a spelling. If you want to use it as a name, then spell it the appropriate way.  Otherwise your baby will spend it's entire life saying, "No, not like the city....(insert random spelling here)".

  Thanks for the opinions ladies...and those of you asking if i was serious about the alternate  spelling for phoenix...yes i was....I like to see other what others can come up with rather that be Fenix or some other spelling..... but I appreciate the openness though thanks.....

  Honestly, I don't care for either name.  However, if I had to choose one I'd go with Phoenix.  At least she won't have to explain the spelling or pronunciation every time she meets someone new.

  "Phoenix" for a girl.  Seriously?  And the other name is just a bunch of letters thrown together with an apostrophe thrown in.  Please don't do that to your little girl.

  I have never in my life heard a girl with the name Phoenix and honestly its terrible.But I mean its your baby and your choice and like someone said above the middle name just sounds ghetto.What is it with people and weird baby names? Its like celebrities that come up with God awful names for their children but I guess they don't really care because they have money.As I said its your baby and your choice but definitely not a choice I would EVER make

  I like the sound of Markiya over Pheonix.  I'm a teacher and I have seen a lot of unique kids names.  I have even seen a Makiyah.  You could also go with Makayla or some variation.

  Sorry if you thought I was being rude. I honestly was not trying to be, just being honest abt my thinking on the apostrophe use. And I was being also being sincere when I said that if you like the name then you should use one if them.
  People do sometimes tend to get a bit snarky with comments/responses on these boards overall. Most view as just being honest or their opinion, though I agree a lot of it could be toned down. We should be able to express our opinions without being mean. That being said many people don't like the name I have chosen if I have a girl. Ask me if I care. LOL. I like the name and it's what I'm using if it's a girl. People's opinions are just that...the decision is yours (good or bad).

  Neither, but if I had to choose: Phoenix.

  If you choose Phoenix, I would highly recommend NOT spelling it differently. It will cheapen it and make it very annoying for your child in the long run.

  The only girl I have ever heard with the name Phoenix is my grandparent's female Siberian Husky.

  Mar'kiya  - would that be pronounced like a "marquee" sign with an "a" on the end? I'm not a huge fan of apostrophes in names. You don't generally see a Judge "apostrophe name" or Dr. "apostrophe name" in society. Just a thought.

    Oh no i didn't think what you said was rude at all...You simply stated your opinion and I respect that...i was talking to all those who was making those rude comments like seriously Phoenix thats just ridiculous and i would never ruinin my child with a name like that or what ever was said....If you don't like the name cool, who's to say I would like yours...I might hate yours just as much as you hate mine but you don't have to be rude about it.....but I don't think what you said was rude at all you said what you had to say and you said it in an adult way not that of a child....but to all the posters thanks...

  If I had to pick one I would pick Phoenix and spell it that way. I work in a children's hospital and my husband has taught elementary school and kids really do get tired of having to pronounce or spell their names to people when they have very different names! Phoenix is a known word, and people would be able to pronounce it and most people would be able to spell it, but it would still be a unique name which I think is what you're going for!
