Trouble TTC

Confused...who to trust?

Hi ladies,

DH and I are planning on doing injectables with IUI this winter.  Until then we're trying naturally.  I recently went to a chiropractor who is working on evening out my hips...one is slightly higher than the other.  This gives me no pain at all but she says it could be contributing to why I can't get pregnant.  She's also doing electro accupuncture.  However, she is wanting me to come in 3-4 times a week which gets to be quite expensive at $25 a visit.  I guess I'm just having a hard time figuring out who to trust with all of this?!  I definitely trust my RE in regards to his plan with us this winter.  But I'm not convinced of the Chiro's plan/care and if it can really help me.  Have any of you tried Chiro care and had good results with it?

So happy for my BFPB Steff13914 and her new twins! Welcome to the world sweet babies:) Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker

Re: Confused...who to trust?

  • I've only gone to orthopedic surgeons & specialists about my hips. I have 3 abnormalities that are trying to be corrected through multiple surgeries. He said my irregular bone anatomy isn't correlated with IF which was good. I'm wondering how much hip knowledge a chiropractor would ultimately have? I'm glad your not in pain, but just hope that doc is the right one for hip issues?

  • I too go to a chiropractor for my hips being slightly out alignment but I fell and knocked them out a couple of years ago.  They were giving me a lot of problems though and chiropractic has gotten rid of it.  Has it helped with my fertility?  Nope I still have PCOS and still rarely ovulate.  The most I've ever gone was 3 times a week and that was at teh beginning.

  • I do think the chiro probably has a good knowledge of "hip issues".  That is their area, neuromuscularskeletal.  That being said, I too wonder if it really could affect your fertility that much.  I have heard that chiro is really good for reducing stress, and I am 100% believer in it.  A lot of research I have read online says that it can even reduce bp.  Helps joints move better also etc.  As far as fertility goes, this seems a little excessive.  Maybe look into a different chiro for a second opinion. There are different "schools" of them. Mine is really science based, and I love him.  It seems to really help my stress, but in no way is he claiming to cure my infertility. It might help, but isn't going to get rid of my PCOS.

A second opinion is a good idea. Having serious hip problems & fighting with insurance companies left and right, I truly believe if you want a part of your body fixed, going to a specialist is best. Not to discount chiropractors, but hips are not a neurological area. Muscular & skeletal issues can also be dealt with through OS who have PhDs specializing in joints. I just wouldn't wish my experiences of suffering through misdiagnosis, doctors who directly said "can't help you: try a specialist", and going through months of PT to no avail. I actually had an OS say "you can't support baby weight & if you were my wife, I'd never let you get pregnant before having surgery." If if helps you that's great. But when I met the specialist (who's 8 hours from our house), he had solutions when the other 4 OS couldn't perform hip preservation surgeries.

  • I have a hard time believing this.  I think the Chiro can make you feel better overall, which can help fertility, but I don't think that 3-4 times a week is necessary and that it is some magic bullet.  Best of luck.
