mac users- a q about external hard drive backup

hi! quick question if you can help me- i have an external HD I use for time machine but I have a second one I want to use to backup photos & videos so that I have them for future use in making movies & photobooks etc....

Do I need to do anythign besides drag & drop them into a folder on the external HD & then delete the original files or is there a special mechanism for this? I know I was told my old external HD wouldn't work b/c it wasn't formatted for Mac and if I reformatted I'd lose all the stuff that was on there (old pictures & whatnot).

Thanks....

  • So you have a new HD that you've formatted for your Mac and have nothing from your old PC on it?  If that's the case, you should be fine just moving everything over to the HD.  I know that in some cases, you can have trouble switching a HD between a PC and Mac, but I'm not sure when it works and when it doesn't.  I've never lost anything off my HD trying to use it on a PC, it just doesn't always show up on PCs.
