Britax roundabout 55 for infants?

Does anyone use the britax roundabout 55 for their newborn? If so did you need to use the foam infant insert as well as the added head support? (sold separately)

As we have both of these inserted in the car seat, but then the seat doesnt look like the baby will be in the 45 degree angle. Almost looks like that the foam insert positions the baby up to straight. We arent sure if the insert is necessary. We haven't had our baby yet so we wont know until she is born how big she is and if we need all the added extras to the seat.

Re: Britax roundabout 55 for infants?

  • I personally am not a fan of newborns in convertible seats.  I feel like they fit better in an infant seat and it makes life so much easier when they are sleeping (which is a lot at first).  As for the 45 degree angle, just stick a rolled up towel under the front of the seat if you need it to be reclined more.  I know you'll need the little insert that comes with the seat (we needed it for our 5 month old), but not sure about the head insert.  If it's not made by the makers of Britax you shouldn't use it as it will void the warranty of the seat in the event of a crash.

  • I'm not comfortable with putting that little of a baby in a convertible. They don't recline enough.

We put DD1 in her Roundabout at 6 months, when she had great head control and could sit up.

  • i agree w/ the PP's.  is there a reason you're skipping the infant seat??  I would not be comfortable (not to mention beyond annoyed having to wake my baby up every time we got somewhere), w/ them in a seat that big and at that angle.

  • We just thought the infant seats seemed to be a money grab, since they only last until 22lbs. But we are thinking of buying an infant seat now too since we plan to have another baby with in two years of this one, and will need another infant one anyways.I am going to be using slings with baby when out walking and such. We shall see how it goes, as the britax roundabout is suitable for 5lbs and up. The infant attachment is from britax too. I only wanted to see if what other moms did with their britax. As everyone does not buy an infant seat.

  • We have the Brittax Roundabout 55 for our 2 and a half year old. Our infant had an infant carseat. The Roundabout is too big for an infant....

  • Iit's not a money grab. Not IMO. It's the safest way to transport an infant, so any money you spend on that is worth it to me!

  • We had one for my daughter. The hospitals here check the carseats before you leave to make sure they're safe. They told me that if i was in a car accident, her arms and legs would break because it didnt tighten up enough. FREAKED ME OUT!

My mom went and got a Graco one from BRU. We have a Britax Marathon for with LO gets a little bit bigger but an infant seat for until then.

agreed. there is a reason most everyone buys one!  plus using it "only til 20lbs" could be a year.  are you having anymore kids? they can use it too....totally worth it IMO.
