Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Crawling & onesies

I bought K a bunch of onesies (& other clothes) today in 12 & 18 months as she's now completely out of 9 months stuff. While the cashier was ringing it up, she asked if K was crawling yet. I said no and she replied that she "figured not because once they start crawling, the onesies are out". I'm confused. Why wouldn't you continue to use onesies just because they are crawling? Do they ride up or something? Anyone?

Re: Crawling & onesies

  • Maybe she figured that your LO wasn't crawling because you didn't buy any pants to go with the onesies? DD is pretty close to crawling, and she's almost never is JUST a onesie - always has on pants. But she wears onesies every day! :)

I bought dresses and pants to go with them. I just don't understand why she'd think you would stop using them just because of crawling.

  • DS has been crawling for a while and I prefer the onesies. I don't like how the shirts tend to ride up. Maybe it was just her own personal opinion.

I have never just had ds in a onesie, even when it was warmer out! I could never just let him be without pants or shorts. I guess I have never liked the look of a baby just wearing a onesie crawling or not.

  • We rarely use onesies anymore because he doesn't like to stay still to get changed. I just find separates to be easier, but that's not because he's crawling, it's just because he'd rather go naked than sit and have clothes put on him.

  • I'm guessing she didn't realize the pants were for the onesies. I bet she thought DD would get rug burn without anything on her legs.

  • No idea why she would say that. I have a full on crawler, and onesies would be fine. We choose not to use them because he is wearing 18 month size, and it's too hard to find onesies that would fit him. On days that it is warm, a onesie and baby legs are the way to go around the house.

  • Mj has been crawling a couple weeks now and does better in onsies than anything else.  I had him in little track pants one day and his legs were slipping out from under him on smoother floors.

  • I've never heard of such a thing, but I can say from experience that onesies are a PITA with a toddler.  They don't like to sit still to snap buttons and if you are potty training, forget about it.  Unfortunately, every time I go shopping for DS1, all the cutest tops seem to be onesies.  If I were you I would just try to avoid onesies for 18 months and up, when she could possibly be potty training.  It's so annoying having to hold up the shirt when they are sitting on the potty.

  • No matter the topic, people always say crazy sh!t about babies (and pregnancy). I think this was just another instance of that.

  • Uh..that makes no sense. I've never seen a baby have issues crawling while wearing a onesie.

  • Yeah she was high...DS2 is crawling and wearing a onesie really has no affect on his crawling.  DS1 wore onesies in the cold months until last year when he got too big for them!

  • ::shrugs::

my almost 2 year old still wears onesies. The plain white ones under his t-shirts. It's the only way I can get him to stay in his diaper.

    This would be my guess.

  • Onesies + crawling = good. Dresses + crawling = not good
  • When our son started crawling I avoided the footed onesies unless they had some kind of traction on the bottom. I figured he would have an easier time if his feet weren't slipping on the hardwood floor - same thing since he started walking (at least until he really masters it) Maybe she was thinking along those lines.
