DH & I Were Judgy McJudgersons

We ate at 5 Guys and saw one of their laminated newspaper stories hanging up. It was a picture of a baby holding a hotdog (no bun) in his fist. The caption read that he was 12 mo and his mother was quoted saying "My baby is in hot dog heaven." DH said, "he's gonna really be in heaven if you keep feeding him hotdogs." I realize that the kiddo survived, of course. I just thought it might not be such a good idea to announce to the world (or at least to 5 Guys customers) that it's cute to feed LOs hotdogs. IDK, an article about a toddler playing with something hazardous might not have been published as light-heartedly. /judgement. Signed: Super Mom Who Never Ever Screws Up Ever

Is this a joke? What's wrong with a hot dog? What is 5 Guys? Is this like a McDonalds- fast food?

  • So you both were eating super greasy burgers and greasy fries...and judging a photo of a toddler holding a hot dog?

Because it's a choking hazard, or because it's not "super healthy"?

  • I totally read this as if it was about the choking hazard.

Regardless, I'm pregnant, out of snacks, starving, and REALLY want a hot dog now. Which is 1st tri judging material in itself...

    Thanks a lot SAC!

Dude, her and her hubby are like perfect role models. They get to say what's cool and what's not.

  • We looooove 5 Guys! That includes DD. Wink

I only just last week stopped cutting her hotdogs and she's almost 4. Well, a lot of that has to do with nannying younger kids and they all tend to share food so it's just safer all around to avoid choking hazards.

I don't judge for occasional junk food, but I sure as heck judge for purposely engaging in high risk activities with your kids and feeding common choking hazards is one of them.

  • Yeah, I am reading this as them being a choking hazard....  I think that's what she meant, right OP?
  • I can't believe any decent mother would let their child hold a hot dog.

(because you know that the kid just ate it and hadn't just pulled it out of the bun for a photo op before the parents cut it up right? you know this because you are a better parent)

I have a picture of my child holding a fish we just caught up at the lake. a) we threw it back b) we don't let her put the worms on the sharp hooks herself c) she didn't eat it whole, was just holding it and d) living your life must be exhausting

    Yes

In the same vein, we had a 3rd grader die in our district from choking on a grape (she was home over the summer I think it was 2 years ago).  Even for amazing eaters, choking hazards are not something to play with.

  • i get the point that to hang something at your restaurant that conveys an unsafe way for a toddler to eat is not cool.  believe it or not, plenty of people don't think about hot dogs being choking hazards, and that can indeed be dangerous.  of course it's possible the parents cut up the hot dog afterwards and this was just a photo op, who knows, but the o.p. didn't like the impression it makes on people who see it.

what is funnier to me is that everyone here then judges HER in return.  judging her for judging others... and the cycle continues.  yay.

  • It's SAC. I probably wouldn't have even opened the post if it wasn't her. She deserves any judgment she gets.

Children should not be allowed to be photographed near/holding dangerous goods. I have a photograph of Jo in the car. I will destroy it and walk everywhere from now on.

I also have a photo of her with my mother's dogs. They are lhasa apsos but if they ever turned loose they could possibly bruise her nose.

ITS A MAD MAD WORLD full of danger and parents with no clue! Thank god we have Strawberry Alarm Clock to be the sort of mother who keeps her children SAFE!

EXACTLY! I mean, what's NOT safe about staying in a marriage with a verbally abusive, alcoholic, pothead, especially when there's a child involved?

    Ummmm...do I know you?

  • a) I got that it was a choking hazard thing

    b) I think hotdogs are gross and feeding hotdogs to kids is grosser, but I'm a vegetarian so....

    and

    c) SAC was obviously making fun of herself for being judgy. Making fun  of her while she's making fun of herself is a little redundant

Thank you for getting the point and the sarcasm. My friend is vegan and the only meat product that actually makes her ill is a hot dog. She literally gags when she sees them.

  • By the way, I realized you're making the entire thing up or leaving our a convenient detail. 5 guys hour dogs are cut open, basically into 4 pieces, fried, and rolled up and put into the bun. It's not like handing your kid a whole hot dog

    Muahahhaaha.

Again, you need to do what you need to do to put your own shitty decisions into perspective SAC.  Even making up stories on the internets.

  • I guess I'm judgy too because I find it repulsive that anyone would ever eat a hotdog, let alone feed one to a child.
