Trying to Get Pregnant

Implantation cramps common or rare?

I see some info on implantation cramps and then a short time later a little bleeding about a week before AF is due.  Is this common?  Or more of a rare occurrence? I'd like some input on this.

Re: Implantation cramps common or rare?

  • I've heard that it is pretty rare. Doesn't mean that I don't think I have implanation cramping every cycle, though!

    Good luck!

  • In my experience they are not common but that's just me.  However, cramping in the 1st tri is very normal.  Try asking 1st tri and see what they say.

  • I cramped ALOT early pregnancy.  But I would not read into cramping.  I cramp every month.
  • It's very individual.

Most "experts" believe that implantation cramps don't actually exist. Cramping will occur in the first trimester when the uterus is starting to expand, but most information that I have read says that actual implantation cramps are a myth.

Implantation spotting is more common. I did have it with my pregnancy. I spotted at 8, 9, and 10dpo, which is my usual luteal phase length, so I thought I had just a very light period. Imagine my surprise when I got a BFP at 15dpo!

  • I didn't have either during my chemical pregnancy or when I was PG with my DS. I have heard that both are pretty rare.

  • I had them the day before I was going to start my period.  I figured they were period cramps and AF never came.  I didn't have any implantation spotting.  From what I've heard implantation cramps are somewhat common.
  • I experienced implantation cramping with my first pregnancy.  It started around the same time AF was expected and lasted about 2 weeks.  I think the later part of that time frame was probably my uterus getting used to being pregnant and not the actual implantation.

  • I got them every time.  But most people never feel them.
