PROMETRIUM AND PERIOD TIMING?

Background: 2ndary amenorrhea.  Took Clomid and Provera to induce cycle 3 times.  First 2 times, got period 2 days after finishing.  3rd time, got period 1 day BEFORE finishing.

I switched to an RE who put me on Letrozole and gave Prometrium after ovulation in case I did conceive so my progesterone levels would be higher.  I was told Prometrium would make me not get my period, so stop if I had a negative pregnancy test.  I stopped Prometrium on CD 24 and have not gotten a period yet (Day 29).  At my Day 14 U/S I had 1 follicle.  I've been used to getting a period from withdrawl of progesterone, but is it possible because I had a follicle (and didn't O the other times) that my body is taking over and I'll get a period when it's ready instead of with the progesterone withdrawl?  I know I technically "should" not get a period until today based on CD, but I've always been used to progesterone withdrawl periods.

    Hey there :) Couple questions.

    Is it possible that despite seeing the follicle, you didn't actually ovulate? It will be tricky to confirm via blood work since you took the prometrium.

    How many DPO do you think you were at CD 24?

    Other than that, different cycles can be different. Sometimes the withdrawal bleeding doesn't kick in for about 10 days? If after that long you still don't have a period, definitely call your doc. And consider taking more pregnancy tests in the meantime?

    I did do an Ovidrel injection the day after the U/S, so I'm assuming I ovulated.  Big temp shift too.  At CD 24, I was 9 DPO.  Yes, I plan to do another test tomm and call doc Monday if nothing.  Thanks:)

    Okay yeah  you probably Oed. Ovidrel has a ridic success rate of inducing ovulation. Did your doc tell you to stop the prometrium at 9dpo?

    Yes, they told me to stop before otherwise it could delay my period and throw the cycle off.

    This, almost exact thing happened to me.  I was told I didn't ovulate though.  I had a negative HPT on 11DPO.  Started taking provera and then just felt funny.  Took a test at 14DPO and it was positive.  I would test again....right away!

    ME: 31 PCOS - DH: 32 Perfect. 
    TTC #1 started 8.2010. 
    BFP #1 3.2.11Blighted ovum, missed m/c, 4.3.11-6.22.11 Provera

    BFP #2 Aug 2011 Clomid 50mg+Met missed m/c found 9w5d | cytotec 10.26.11 
    BFP #3 - CD36 - Jan. 2012 - 100mg Clomid + 2000met-  Baby Boy born 10.06.12 with 1 in a billion CHD. Perfect otherwise.

    Now Im confused. I am on Prometrium as well. I have PCOS. I take Metformin too. My RE wants my cycles at 28 days. So regardless of what my OPK's say, ovulation or not, at CD16, I start taking 1 Prometrium vaginally, for 12 days. Prometrium, as far as what I was told can do 2 things, start your period after the withdrawal, or if you are pregnant, help sustain the pregnancy. Is this completely off base? I have taken the Prometrium 3 times now, at the end of my cycle, and the day after ending it, I get my period.

    sammyslick, you're right on.  If you're not pregnant, after you stop the prometrium, you'll get your period.  If you are pregnant, it does help sustain the pregnancy and you won't get your period.  I don't have PCOS, but I don't think that makes a difference.  And I don't think I'm pregnant as our RE did not think Letrozole would work as I didn't respond to Clomid, but I needed a couple ultrasounds done before I can move on to injectables...which I'm waiting to do...if only AF would come!!

    Der- Im dumb. I just reread your OP. My comment was obviously not needed becuase that is exactly what you said. Thanks for the confirmation though. I really muct be losing my mind today. Good thing Im leaving work early!!!!!!

    This happened to me too.  I was on Clomid & Prometrium.  I was told to test at 14 DPO and if it was negative, stop taking the Prometrium.  By 18 DPO, I still hadn't started & took another test that was positive.  After that, I immediately went back on Prometrium until I was 11 weeks.  Depending on your situation, you should consider testing daily, as the Prometrium will help a pregnancy until the placenta takes over.  (that was my doc's orders, but again, my situation called for it).

    I think it'd odd that they told you to stop at 9dpo, it's completely normal, even if you do wind up pregnant, to have a negative test that early. I take progesterone until 14dpo and my period usually comes 1-2 days after.
