I cannot really remember what I brought DS home in. I think I bought a Carter's onesie or something but not entirely sure he didn't just come home in the pants that matched the onesie and the white hospital t-shirt. I cannot remember.
Anyway, my mom wants to buy this baby's coming home outfit and while I'm not super worried about it - I do know there will be more pictures this time (don't even have a pic of DS in his carseat on the way home from the hospital! the camera was packed with all of our junk and we were ready to leave b/c H's family was there driving us nuts lol).
And because we have a DS and this is our 2nd baby I feel like we will hopefully take more pics so I want a cute outfit. I was thinking of having H wear his Big Brother t-shirt while the baby wears a Little Sister/Brother t-shirt so they "match" somewhat. I think that might be the gift from DS to the baby is a t-shirt and maybe a rattle or something and then a puzzle from the baby to DS. Anyway, curious if anyone else is planning anything or knew where they were getting something.
Re: Coming Home Outfit question
I got a cute "Little Brother" outfit from Carter's that we will prob use at the Coming Home outfit.
It is in their Layette section and comes with a onesie, pants, hat & sock (the onesie just has little brother embroidered on it in lowercase letters). It all came in a little white meshy bag.
The boy version is brown; I know they have a girl version too - not sure what color I am guessing pink.
It's cute & simple.
I think it'd be cute for your DS to be in a Big Brother shirt and the new baby to be in a little brother/sister shirt. I have a coming home outfit already (two actually since we're team green). But our hospital has a photographer that comes and takes pictures, and I want our oldest two in Big Sister/Brother shirts. If we have a boy, I would love for DD2 and the new baby to have Little Sister/Brother shirts, especially since DD2 is really petite. If we have another girl, we'd probably do all big brother/sister shirts for the three older ones. I"m waiting a little longer because Kohls didn't have out all their sister/brother shirts yet. For coming home outfits, we got outfits with feet in them since it will be cold in December. Last time I didn't do that, and it's a pain to keep socks on a newborn!
I just put them in sleepers. For me, leaving the hospital and going home seems like a non-event, so I'm not going to buy a special outfit for it.
We usually go all out on the going home outfit...well, my family does. I guess it's an italian tradition to have the grandmother (your mother) buy the going home outfit. This rang true for myself and all of my cousins (all 20 of us). I'm lucky enough to have a low key mother who lets me pick out the outfit and foots the bill- however she gets upset if it's not over $50 and it has to be a one piece outfit with matching hat and blanket. The boys outfits are usually long pants and long sleeve one pieces with a onsie underneath. I have 3 boys (a 4th on the way) and I got one outfit from Janie and Jack, which came in a cute little keepsake box that comes in handy as I keep the outfits for their baby boxes. I got one from bloomingdales- a little ralph lauren outfit and a Tommy Hilfiger outfit for my first. They were all cotton and light blue and comfy- unlike the outfits my grandmother picked out for us. I hate to see babies in frilly uncomfortable looking things right after coming out of the womb. Good luck.
Hope this helps.
This baby #1 for us. We have a cute little outfit set: little grey pants, white onesie that says love on it and a pink jacket with a heart on it. She's due in February so I thought it was cute. I'm not sure she'll wear the jacket home, maybe just for pictures. It will be February and a little cold though.
SO thinks it might to too much clothing so we are getting a cute sleeper too. If there is a chance she might be big, we'll probably get another little sleeper in 0-3 months instead of newborn too.
At first, I was super excited about shopping for my baby girl's coming home outfit. Then, I found out my mom and aunt saved MY coming home outfit! So of course I thought, since my baby girl is gonna be born the same month as my b'day, I hope she'll be coming home in my coming home outfit, 35yrs later, if it fits her
Not only will this be very sentimental to me and my family, but it would be a nice side by side photo to boot!
Our son came home in a brown and green striped sleeper with a moose on the front. If this baby was a boy, he would've also worn it.
I bought our little girl an ivory sleeper with roses on it, with a matching hat.
The hospital I'm delivering at will release patients by 11am or 12pm - so right around lunch. When DS was born, we had 4 people at our house within minutes of being home - it was my mom who rode with us and H's mom and 2 sisters who followed us home. Otherwise I wouldn't really care what the plan was or what the baby would wear.
Because we won't call H's family until the baby is born and we've had our family time and DS has met the baby - we anticipate at least one sister and his mom wanting to come to our house - and my mom will probably as well.
I think we will stick with the Little Brother or Sister route - Carter's had the cute sets with the hats and stuff, but I will also get a sleeper - I remember baby socks were next to impossible to keep on! So we will have two options and sizes just in case,
