Um...I bought all of those things. And honestly, I've loved all of them.
I bought all except for the designer nursery (our furniture was from Walmart), the bassinet and the video monitor, but some of the things were never or rarely used in my home (example: the diaper genie and wipe warmer)

Our diaper genies prevent the nursery and our living room from smelling like an alley. Yes, we have 2.
I also couldn't live without the video monitor. Especially during the first 5 months.
For this child I prayed, and the LORD has given me my petition which I asked of him.

I agree with the high chair, but I have a kid who refuses to sit in one. We use a booster seat on a mat on the floor.
However, I would die without my video monitor or my diaper genie.
I'm not gonna lie...I REALLY wanted a video monitor, but my DH is a cheap asss
It's actually even more important now than it was when she was younger. My DD doesn't make a sound when she wakes up, not a peep. We have to continually glance at the monitor when we think it's wake up time so we know when to go get her.

I agree with most of the items listed. I do not agree with putting the Diaper Genie on the list. OMG you should SMELL what my little guy can cook up for us. A regular trashcan can't block that odor. Trust me. We tried.
I pretty much agree with everything on the list. We do have a high chair, although I can see their point about just a booster. We also have a video monitor, which has been a godsend for us. My daughter is a very noisy sleeper, so I often have to look at the monitor to find out if she's actually awake or just making noise in her sleep.

We CD, if we didn't I can't imagine just putting her dipes in a regular can, she brews up a mean poo.
I agree with most of those things. I do love our video monitor and our high chair. I use my video monitor all the time. He eats pretty much every meal in his high chair, so we get a lot of use out of it.
I love our video monitor, I'd had to go into DS's room a lot of times to check if he was awake or not, specially the first 6 months, surely not a waste of money! and we also have and use a lot the highchair and the diaper genie
we had a bassinet and thoght it was great, but we didn't buy it, my sister let me borrow it
I agree with OP, but add the diaper genie to it. The other diaper's refills are constantly sold out at my local walmart, and a regular trashcan with lid wont work because C now knows how to work the lid. As in, that is where my phone was on Sunday afternoon when DH and I tore the house apart looking for it. C also knows how to turn the phone off so it goes straight to voicemail.

I agree with some of those things. I definitely didn't need the bedding and nursey items to match, but I wanted it. I love my diaper genie!
I also love the Fisher Price booster seat and am so glad that we didn't buy an actual high chair. We don't own a monitor either. We live in a tiny apartment with her room right across from her's, so I never had the need for one.
I agree with everything except the high chair and the video monitor. We have a standard sound only monitor and frankly it bugs the hell out of me because 1/2 the time I cant tell if DD is just moaning in her sleep or if she actually needs me. Plus once they hit the toddler stage I really think you need one just so you know what the heck they are doing in their room. We will probably be getting one soon, yeah it's not a must have but it's a REALLy nice to have.
As for the wipe warmer we actually CD so for us it is great for holding cloth wipes that we prewet with water. That said is it necessary no way, is it nice to have yeah.
I disagree with that list, I love my video monitor, high chair, diaper genie, changing table, and my 'designer convertible crib'. I agree with the wipe warmer.
I agree with all of them. We put the changing pad on her dresser, and didnt use the high chair until after 6 months. We've recently switched to a FP booster seat, and I wish I'd gotten that from the begining ($25 vs teh $100+ for the high chair). We also don't have a diaper genie. We use a small metal trash can with plastic grocery sacks as liners. We take them out every night or after every poopy diaper, and spray the trash can with Lysol. Works well, and no "dirty diaper smell" to her nursery.
We did/do have a video monitor, and while I agree that it isnt NECESSARY, we do like it.

I agree with all but the bassinet...sort of. We had a PnP with a bassinet feature. Both kids slept in our room for the first 10-ish months, and when they weren't in bed with us they were in the PnP at night. Absolutely "needed" for us unless we wanted to put baby on the floor! DS didnt even have a crib until he was about 18 months!
I definitely use my high chair, but I got the $20 one from IKEA. And I could not live without my video monitor. I agree with everything else. I have never used a changing table, just the floor and the designer nursery stuff and bedding you can't use always seemed silly to me.
How about no one needs a baby bath tub, or baby wash cloths or baby towels or baby shoes. You don't need a stroller or an infant car seat (the convertible ones are sufficient, why get two?) They missed a lot!
I agree with it all except the high chair. My daughter always wants to stand up when she's in a booster seat. It's annoying. She's perfectly fine in her high chair for a little while.
I tried to get away with just using abooster, but he wouldn't sit in it. My parents gave us a cheap Cosco high chair & he loves it. I can leave him in it with some toys while I cook. We just use a changing pad on top of his dresser. It has worked fine. And we recently stopped using our diaper pail and now use a regular trash can.
I have all of those... and loved all of them. Most are still in use, with the exception of swaddling blankets and bassinet) and still love them all. I still use my changing table because its the only place she doesn't flop all over the place to be changed.
I imagine they are fluff items that aren't necessary, but having them around made my life a whole lot more easier.
I agree with most of the things but I do have a diaper genie and a high chair. Our high chair is one of the space saver ones that attach to a chair. I love the diaper genie regardless of the cost of the refills, beats a regular trashcan any day.
*The expensive NB clothing-we bought a lot of stuff from our local kids consignment, and C wore mainly sleepers for the 1st two months anyway.
*A video monitor-our room is right next to his and the walls are paper thin.
*Diaper Genie-I got one from a friend and I ended up giving it away, bought a simple trash can and used left over decals from C's room to decorate it, works better and easier.
However, I used the bassinet for the 1st three months, I decorated C's room (but bought his crib, changing table and dresser 2nd hand for $250). I still use his changing table and he loves his high chair. I love my wipe warmer I got as a gift, I have to get it back out now that it's getting colder-would you want to get wiped with a cold wipe in the middle of the night?
I didn't get a video monitor, had a craptastic sleeper and I genuinely think I flucked her up even worse because I couldn't guage whether she was really waking up or just fussing in her sleep and I spent 6 months going in to "comfort" her and was really just waking her up and teaching her horrible sleep habits. It wasn't until we suffered through some sleep training and got a video monitor that I realized that half the time she wasn't even AWAKE when she was making noise, and if I just left her for a few minutes she would fall back asleep. This improved my life tremendously and now I swear by the video monitor. LOVE IT!
I'm in the market for a video monitor right now...we bought a regular one but now that my boys are starting to walk I have fears they are going to climb out of their cribs and I won't know since the master is on the first floor and their nursery is on the second!
A bedding set is unnecessary but we got ours as a gift.
We have a change table mattress on top of the dresser in her room, but change her more often downstairs on a change pad on the floor.
My neighbour gave us her old bassinet and we loved it for the first six months, until DD moved to her crib. I could see why some people wouldn't want one. The same neighbour gave us our highchair, and we use it for every meal, every day.
I personally don't think a video monitor or wipes warmer is neccessary.
I'm kind of 50/50 on the Diaper Genie. I got it as a gift at my baby shower. Some people swear that baking soda in a regular garbage can works, but not for us. I'm not sure I would have spent the money on it, but the Diaper Genie II Elite has worked wonders for us.
I was against getting a wipe warmer when I was pregnant.... then LO came around and demanded one. she would scream when we used normal cold ones, and i waited a week or two before finally giving in and buying a warmer... now it's still not her favorite, but at least she doesn't scream the whole time.
we also have an elite diaper genie, PNP bassinet, and changing table on the dresser.

This a 1000%. It's exactly why I told my two friends who just had babies to get one because without it you are just sort of blindly guessing what the hell is happening on the other end of that monitor.
I agree with all of it except the video monitor. I can't imagine what I'd do without it. We've never owned a high chair. FP Healthy Care booster seats rock.

Another person here who is pro-video monitor. Often, when of our boys will cry out. We don't let one cry for too long or he will wake the other. We use the video monitor to see if he is standing up or if he is sitting down rocking. If he's sitting, he will usually lay back down and go back to sleep.
I don't see the need for a changing table, either. I think we've used ours once. They were in our bedroom for the longest time, so we just used a changing pad on our bed. Even now, I still use a changing pad in the living room.
Funny you should post this. I sent this article to DH yesterday to show how savvy I was when preparing for LO. I followed all of the suggestions. I told him I could have written this article!

The video monitor is the only thing I feel passionately about in the list. I love ours and couldn't function without it.
I like our highchair and get a lot of use out of it.

If my video monitor broke today, I would be at BRU getting a replacement within the hour. There are few baby items that I feel so passionately about.
