We just learned in our infant care class that we should dress baby in just a t-shirt and diaper until the stump falls off (to promote air flow to help dry the stump) and to avoid onsies or anything that may rub/pull on the stump. This all makes sense but how do we keep baby warm now that we are headed into the cooler season?
Re: Umbilical stump care in colder months
Both of my kids wore onesies - and we never had any problems. My oldest was a winter baby, and he wore nightgowns or sleepsacks to bed (he wasn't a fan of the swaddle). The youngest was a summer baby so he just wore a onesie and was swaddled or covered with a muslin blanket.
