WOW!! Where did the week go. Last week I was having to pick a donor all over again as our first choice was no longer available. Well, we picked, ordered and it should arrive this week. : )
Do I just call to double check?
Well, my cycle has began so now the journey begins. I'm excited, nervous, anxious, and scared all at the same time. I have a few questions though that I thought maybe someone on here might be able to advise. Maybe I don't even need to worry.
1st question: I'll be starting clomid. My sister questioned if this was the right medication as I'm over 30. Should I just trust my specialist or question them.
2nd question: this past weekend I suffered a compressed disc. I'm seeing my chiropractor and taking a few "back and muscle pain relievers" Does anyone know if these are safe at this stage? I'm hoping only a few more days to a week of the meds and DI shouldn't happen for a couple of weeks at the earliest.
Thanks for listening. What with everything happening so fast I'm just getting so nervous. Guess it's time for a little meditation and relaxation.
Re: DI - IUI questions - update
I hope you don't mind me answering.
If you are taking an anti inflammatory (motrin or something like that) for your back you should talk to your RE. My RE never let me take motrin/ibuprofen when I was cycling.
My first three donor IUIs were with clomid and I was 32 at the time. Unless you have an IF diagnosis yourself (beyond the need for a donor) it's pretty standard procedure to start with clomid IUIs before moving on to other/stronger meds.
I always called to check and see if my vials had arrived. I don't recall my clinic calling me to let me know.

DH - DX Azoospermia - Sertoli Cell Syndrome

I cant give a for sure answer ( I think I may have read on this board somewhere) that after a certain age they give something different then Clomid. I am 28 and I currently take Clomid. I would ask the doctor about it and see what he/she says. From what I read on here and my personal experience, REs really vary in how they treat people.
The only time my RE tells me not to take something is after the insemination, during the 2ww. I always get this paper with directions and it says to only take Tylenol is absolutely neccessary.
Good luck:)
The only experience I had with Clomid was at age 32. It thinned my lining out so bad, the wouldn't even do the iui- also, I developed 4 cysts on my ovary, and a small case of OHSS. MY RE said that response occurs in about 30% of patients. She talked about Femara briefly, and said that is did about the same, but she didn't see a thinned lining in her patients with it.
She new that we wanted to be VERY aggressive in trying to get pregnant- so after the clomid- we moved on to injectibles. She knew we were using donor sperm, so it isn't like we had an unlimited supply of sperm (it's not exactly cheap) but we do have excellent prescription coverage. LIke she said- you will get more bang for your buck with this... LOL
But as Yellow Daisy said, Clomid is pretty standard if you don't have any IF issues yourself. I have never heard of an age limit. And my clinic never called me to tell me the vials were in-they always ordered them for me- I paid the clinic- they called the sperm bank, and then they dealt with it from there. So I assumed if there were any issues, the re's office would handle it. They did always tell me to have a back up, in case my first choice wan't availible
That's great, I'm so happy you found another donor
My RE called me when the vials arrived, and I also got a follow up email regarding the arrival from both my RE and the cryobank.
I would check with your RE about the medication, just to make sure. My RE only wants me to take Tylenol when I'm cycling, no motrin/ibuprofen. I'm not sure about the clomid though, but I've seen people on here of all ages taking it. Did you ask your RE about it? It never hurts to get some more details from them, or to seek a second opinion if you don't feel comfortable.

Thank you so much ladies. I have to go on day 3 for blood work and asked if I could have some time to speak with the nurse while I'm there to answer some of my questions. It's a lot easier to get into see her/him then the actual doctor. If there's something she/he can't answer they will find out and get back to me.
I'm so glad I have that option. You ladies rock. Keep you posted, Thanks for listening again. Best of luck to all of you.
it's a crazy roller coaster cutie
clomid is usually the first step with iui's and can be a helpful tool to see how you respond to meds, age doesn't usually play a role unless your b/w indicates DOR
i would ask RE about pain meds
